Why the Deebo request has me nervous

I pretty much stopped worrying about what other teams do since I already know that my team most likely isn't going anywhere

I get that. I'm aware that I'm probably not going to experience what it's like to see the Cowboys go beyond the division round. Still, it was a thought that gave me realise there was a potential problem that the Cowboys could face.

I know he had a tremendous season, and also was a huge part in ending our season, but I just don't really think Deebo is that scary of a player, and think Shannahan really got the most out of him. Wouldn't care if the eagles traded a ton for him

I feel dirty about having this thought. I expressed this in another thread as sort of rambling about who Deebo would make sense to be traded to by SFO. My thought was that the Eagles were in play for this trade. This struck a nerve with my mind as I realised just how realistic this is and what this means for the Cowboys.

The NFC East is weak. We are the only team in this division right now that shows much of a threat. As it stands now, the Eagles have no WRs, but a top notch WR along with their picks would make them dangerous next year. They have the ammo (see the next point) to make this happen. The Giants have another 1st courtesy of the deal the Bears made for Fields. However, their secondary sucks, their oline sucks, and they have a ton of other weaknesses that makes this irrelevant. The Commanders are not a threat by any means.

They have 2 first round picks this year and 2 first picks next year. Their main needs are WR and oline. I don't think they keep Hurts this year. WR is probably their biggest need. Also, they have Howie Roseman. I am thinking the Eagles will trade both 1sts this year or one 1st this year and one next year for Deebo. Then, next year, they make a move for a QB when the class is better. This has all the hallmarks of an Eagles move in my view, and it'd put the division into a two team race this year and next.

What the Cowboys should do if this happens:
Firstly, the oline needs help, so that should be addressed. Secondly, we need to bolster the Dline, especially 1T. This will push the pocket and give the QB nightmares. Essentially, this builds up the defencive trench which helps the DBs that'd be tasked with covering Deebo. Thirdly, the Cowboys need to get another CB. We don't know what's going to happen with Kelvin Joseph with his situation, and I'm not sure Brown stays beyond this year. As such, we need another CB on the other side of Diggs.
Well thought out.
Be interesting to see what happens.
Stay tuned!

It would serve Chuckles and Booger right if the Eagles did land Debo....their plan all along is to take ZERO risk, win a horrific East and then roll the dice in the playoffs with one guaranteed home game.

These two have been lucky with the Cowboys in the worst division in the NFL....the Beagles and the Commandos are fixing to get better in next couple of years. The Cowboys just standing still or regressing, no bold moves, no proactive thinking. No guts, no glory. Serves them right to be the ones battling the Giants for the bottom of the division pretty soon. As for competing against the rest of the league, forget it.

I'm not worried about Washington. Wentz isn't a very good QB, and I don't think they will be much of a factor. The Eagles did make the playoffs last year, and their draft capital gives me reason to pause. I think they are the team that's going to give us headaches next year, especially if they pull off a deal with Deebo.

The giants have had one good season in the last 10 years. It's been great lol. Eventually this division has to get better. I'm sure it will the next few years

SF made it to the NFCCG with Garropolo due to Samuel, who many here seem to think isnt much better than Hurts, so you never know.

Garoppolo is not a great QB, but he's an NFL QB. Jalen Hurts is not. It's very hard to reach the NFCCG with only a run game and a quarterback only suited to play college ball.

The original poster thinks if Philly , who has no quarterback, can add deebo will be a threat in the nfc east? Lolololol. Not too bright.

You missed a minor detail. Getting Deebo was half the plan. They have two first round picks in 2023. If they add a 2024 first round pick, they could probably move anywhere in the first round they want. If there's a really good QB in the draft....

I think getting Deebo is only worth it to them if they only have to give 1 first round pick. Maybe adding a 2nd or 3rd. Because let's face it, they can probably draft one of the best WRs in this year's class. Is deebo better? Probably. Is he worth two 1sts and paying him 25-30m over the alternative? I don't think so.

Let me counter this way, if he's better than the WRs in this draft, which I think we agree that he is, then why should they not? If they're going to go QB next year anyway, why not use some of the capital to get a player you know is lethal and, paired with Smith, means that you now have the best WR duo in the division with ease. In my mind, it still makes sense for them to do it.

On the bright side, maybe this move would force Jerry and Stephen to actually be bold for once.

A quarterback only suited to play college ball made the playoffs. Even if with an easy schedule, it still happened.

He’s not going anywhere

I agree, 1st off he is a FA after this season and the 2nd part teams like Houston who have 2 picks in the 1st rd are in better shape to work a deal should SF trade Deebo. I'm guess is he will resign with the 49ers and this is more about getting leverage during these contract talks. Deebo makes a comment about Dallas and the fan base gets carried away. Deebo has no say in where SF may trade him if they choose to do so and Dallas does not have the draft capital as other teams do.

if any team in our division wants to go pay a wr 30m/yr before getting a qb, i'm all for it.

We paid one 20M and then regretted it, I see no one in our division paying a WR 30M, think they all learned something from our misfortune on paying big salaries like to WR and RB.
