Franchise and draft apathy

I love the draft and this time of year in general. So do a lot of people.

But I can't remember a more apathetic and lethargic feeling among the Cowboys fan base this close to the draft.

The a creep of sameness and almost boredom surrounding this team right now. We want that new vette, but we know it's the same ole Honda Accord.

I want the center from Iowa, or the guard from A&M, but honestly, I kind of don't care what they do this year because the end results seem predetermined and inevitable. Rack up wins in a weak division and contend for the playoffs, then fall on their faces.

I hate it because, again, I generally love the draft.

I'm right there with ya, duder.

I love draft coverage, and usually build my own board in an excel file. Love listening to Broaddus, Cavanaugh, and Brugler break it all down too but haven't tuned into a draft show once and the draft is less than a week away. Been focused more on hockey and baseball, hilariously.

Crazy.

I know exactly how you feel. I've been there before.

I come back with a passion because I can't change my stripes and I'm not gonna give up on something that I'm so passionate about just because I don't like how the team is run by Jerry's ego.

I've tried mini protests due to principle. It doesnt work.

I just don't buy any merchandise. All I can really do that doesn't end up hurting me more than him.

Captivation supersedes apathy. Because your still going to follow the Dallas Cowboys no matter what. You're still going to want to know who they took in the draft. You're still going to go to Cowboys related websites. You're still going to watch the games.

Year after year, fans are relegated to hope and optimism that "this year will be different" only to realize after every season, "It was the same result again."

I think the biggest issue with many fans is that everything has been changed from the head coach down and none of those changes have produced any better results. New coordinator? Same result. New quarterback? Same result. New coach? Same result. The only unchanged variables in the Cowboys equation are team ownership and the front office.

What adds salt to the wounds of many fans is that every year fans have been filled with hope and optimism only to be let down and get nothing in return while the team owners continue to see their revenues climb and their wealth increase due to the Cowboys financial valuation increasing every year.

In other words, fans get misery and disappointment from failed seasons, team ownership gets financially rewarded for them.

Yep, I think reality has set in, as long as the front office structure remains the same, we are going to keep getting the same results.
27 years of not being relevant has started to sink in....

Yep, For 10 years it was all Garrett's fault.
Now most fans are seeing the problem runs deeper.
Much deeper.

That's simple for me.....

Jerry hires real coaches, we have success.

Jerry hires puppets, we do not.

Mr "I'll do anything to win" is a flat out liar.

GM, head coach, & starting QB.

3 pillars of successful winning championship organization that if head by quality individuals the trajectory of that organizational culture will only be positive, & upward.

In Dallas, the GM is a dysfunctional/fraud/broken absence of accountability position that has failed for over 28 years, combined with a puppet head coach who has no command in the locker room, and lacks the authority with both roster moves, and his own coaching staff, and finally a QB who is overpaid, & lacks talent.

The draft ain't gonna fix those problems.

Fans are still hung over from the playoff loss. The players we’ve lost and the lack of moves in free agency has added to the lack of enthusiasm. Even some of the most optimistic fans have lost hope in the franchise. Having the 24th pick in the draft isn’t helping fans get excited. This is the most frustrated I’ve seen the fan base since I started posting in 2003.

Agree completely! I LOVE the draft. One of my favorite sporting times of year. But instead of being fired up that we can fill some holes and win, I’m kind of just “meh” that it will change much. I’m sure my excitement will rise as we get close to games but I’m way more guarded with my emotions right now. I think part of it really comes down to…”what is our direction.” Magic 8 Ball seems to answer “rudderless.”

I didn't post once the entire season last year. I'm a season-ticket holder, and I went to one game. Actually didn't watch a couple of games on TV because there were just other things I'd rather do.

That hadn't happened before.

And now I have zero anticipation for next season. Waiting for that to change, but not holding my breath.

The only thing that would frustrate the fan base even more is to watch Jerry trade out of the first round to pick up an extra third and fifth.

NOTHING in sports is Predetermined or inevitable.. sorry feelings dont count there's OTAs, Mcs, and TC plus PS games to build rosters then you have to play the game. so much time between now and September plus the trad deadline etc nothing is set..IT WHY YOU PLAY THE GAMES..

lots of crazy things can happen in 17 game season and in the playoffs. dont think anyone thought Cinci was making the SB before the season or even mid-way.it just happened..they still have never won one but first time in 31 years they been back..

why you here if its predetermined? no reason to talk cowboys or watch cowboys if you know the end result. Things change, dont care about the old 30 year narrative..it can change in a minute like it did for Philly in 17 first SB ever took 60 years, 50 years for KC to get back, 31 for cinci this is never inevitable that we fail again..its why we watch..

I will be excited for the draft because the only way this team can win is if we have hall of famers at each position ...... But I will no longer fall for the Jones's bull crap.

If the crowd would start loudly roaring boos at the Jones's every time they show their face, maybe something would change, but I do not think this fan base is smart enough to do that.

I think fans do some of it to themselves
Can any one really honestly think going into last year we was a SB team? We had just came off one of the worst season for a defense in cowboy history. Yet fans throughout the year got in their head that this was a SB team
Last year to me was much better than I expected and many are judging this year based on some fantasy that we was gonna go sign a bunch of high dollar players without even looking at the cap situation.
This FA is not over and we still have the draft
But so far this off season had went just about how I expected. I expected to lose a core part of the team and thought it would be either Dlaw or cooper. I didn’t expect us to go out and sign a bunch of top FA
What’s gonna determine if this coming year is like last year, better or worse is about the guys we had as depth last year making the jump to good starters, hitting on a couple or three starter quality draft picks and stating healthy
If we got all 3 of those things this team could be really good but without all 3 they could be worse than last year
I’m stoked about the draft because it’s one part of replacing what we lost and upgrading maybe others

You mean how fans of all 32 teams boo Goodell? lol He still there.

I work hard all day and during the season come game day I look forward to the games, especially the Cowboys game. If I felt it was a punishment or I did not enjoy it then why in the world would I watch it? What is it just a habit? lol
I really do not know what to say to anyone who will sit there and watch and so call pull for a team and is miserable doing it.
Given the turnover in players from 1 season to the next I think more than ever this is a year to year league, before FA you built a team, you had guys on the bench who sat a year or 2 before becoming starters but those days are gone. Now it a year to year game. So I don't care about 27 years ago, I care about this year.

Since we only have maybe two now I don’t think we get there
And never will
