I pretty much expect us to go Oline or WR, possibly LB in the 1st round.

But if Davis make his way to us, do we take him?

Why or why not?

i would.
i'd turn in that card and not look back.
he's a force on the inside.
he'd be the missing piece for our dline.
but i don't think they would.
maybe mccarthy and quinn have had an impact on how the f/o views def tackle and safety but i just don't see the jones gang taking a dt that high.
it would be a home run pick tho.
our run defense improves day 1.

If you are asking would I take him, the answer is absolutely. And he could be one of the exceptions that Jerry Jones was talking about in saying the team needs to take an OL but won't if a Parsons or Lamb falls. However, we also know in the past that the team hasn't valued big NT-type defensive lineman, especially if there are questions about their ability to be more than a run-down defender. So I don't expect Dallas to take him even if he's there, but I do hold out hope that avoiding big men was more of a Marinelli things and Quinn would force a change in that attitude.

Im in the minority, but I expect him to be the pick if he falls. They wouldn't have wasted an official visit on him if they weren't going to consider him

You would have to, Jordan Davis is a top 10 rated player on probably every franchise draft board in the league, Im sure some will respond saying not on Dallas board, but I can 100 percent guarantee you that he is.
So in answer to your question if JD did drop, if Dallas didnt want him, the phone would be ringing off the hook with trade back value.
Not saying anyone is listening to the phone ringing.

Of course they'd take him if he fell that far. I just don't see it happening. He wouldn't get past philly's two picks.

I dont think the issue is drafting him, it's that there's not much chance someone of his physical attributes falls (especially as teams with 2 picks can afford to take punt on a physical freak).
The fact that Jordan instantly helps: assist one of our weaknesses, create long 3rd downs and whilst not personally pash rushing he's a person mover that can be used to create unimpeded lanes for Micah and edges really is a no brainer pick.

He might but we won't take a DT that high. Day 1 is prime time and Jerry loves some camera. He wants to pick someone that will get the talking heads attention and focused on him. A flashy player with a chink in the armor. I see us taking Jameson Williams. That's a Jerry pick custom gift wrapped for him.

Hypothetically Davis would drop because come draft time, scouts and gurus tend to start second guessing themselves.
Over scouting, over criticizing, and at some point, some rumor generates that Davis' motor runs hot and cold,
he takes plays off, and too often woefully condition, and his pass rush skills become in question.

If we take him in 1st, it will be because Quinn will lobby that hard for him, along with Davis already being so high on McClay's draft value board to begin with.
sure he is more 1 tech, but is he more comparable to Vita Vea (Bucs) a dominant 1 tech run defender with some rush traits ?

Davis maybe the type that has to come out in the 2 minute warning, because he's not a innate pass rusher., but he is also the type that changes how offense
in shutting down the run.

with past flirting with coveting DTs Aaron Donald and Ed Oliver, i don't think it's totally out of the question with a DT.
But i also would think that DT would have to be more of a pass rusher - and supposedly that's not Davis' trait.

DTs rarely get big contracts in free agency unless they're pass rushers.

Why spend a premium pick on a run downs DT when those are cheap in free agency?

Would you use a first on Dontari Poe, even based on his best years in the NFL?

Yes, complete opposite type DTs. Donald and Oliver both about 6-1, 290.

It's not a rumor. It is clear from game footage that Davis takes plays off.

He'll flash some years in the NFL, but there is a high probability that he'll often be out of shape and end up as a Dontari Poe clone.

Each time I've reviewed his game footage, I come away with this thought: Lazy

I would be shocked if he gets by the Baltimore, Eagles and New England.

I think those were special cases b/c they fit the Marinelli prototype for DTs...... quick and able to get up the field.

We haven't invested much in the DT position at all. Russel Maryland was the last DT we picked in round 1............ even round 2 is pretty dry. Tristy Hill is the only round 2 pick we've spent on a DT since Maryland.

And he collapses pockets, which is how NT's contribute to the pass rush
