C, because IMO a 1st round Draft pick has to be a Game 1 Starter that season period. Project or backup is 2nd and after rounds
true so why give them a C?? Just because you are cowboys fan?
I gave them a d because there is a chance he surprises us, but really should have given a F
This is not the guy you pick in rd 1, trade back and get more picks. Philly used 1 pick and traded the other rd 1 pick, as they are smarter
than the jones boys.

I think the jones boys just have to have a pick in rd 1, and will never trade a rd 1 pick in the draft for more picks, which is a big flaw.

Grade Dallas 1st Round selection of Tyler Smith.

I'm giving them a C.

He has potential to be a great Guard, but definitely needs some work on penalties..

I also would have preferred Dallas to go with DE Jermaine Johnson there. He appears to be much better value than Smith.

But Oline definitely needs to be revamped.
We painted ourselves into a corner by not addressing Oline in free agency.
That was a fail on the front office.

Shannon and Skip just ripped them for the pick....both stating that Linderbaum will hit the ground running next year, and going to Pro Bowls. What a TERRIBLE pick!!!

BPA available at position of need.

I expect him to start at LG. Who else? They don't like McGovern, and have nothing behind him.

Hope McGovern is working the jugs machine to be our Jumbo TE/FG.

he may start, anyone can start, but will he be good enough, and not a lot of penaltys?

Time will tell, but just looking at that little bit of tape , I didnt see much to think he will be very good.

After sleeping on it I’m giving it a B for now. He has some of the best tape out there IMO. The holding calls he got are from pancaking so many people. Watching the tape again I felt like I was watching ‘The Blind Side’ where Oher takes the defenders to the bleachers.

What I do not like is the position flex mumbo jumbo. Just put him at LG and let him thrive. I think he will be 20 times better than Williams as he’s not getting pushed back.

I have the pick a C. Cowboys could have traded back a few spots and likely still get him. As for the player? I like him, he was playing tackle but in Dallas he will play guard, the man is a road grader in run blocking and unlike Williams do not see him getting pushed back. Kid is strong and nasty and putting him on the inside I think will help out a lot
Wonder if all those penalties was because he was playing out of position?Big difference between G and T for some players.

I would give them an "incomplete" grade. He wasn't who I hoped to see but I'm not going to grade today because it'd just be a guess.

Every year we have people gushing over guys who end up doing squat, and writing off dudes who end up being players.

I'm fine with the position, given the state of the o-line going into last night. Whether he's the guy remains to be seen.

I have no idea if he any good. All I hear is that he's talented, but a penalty machine.

He will fit in perfectly in Dallas

Linderbaum would have been a far better pick. Also, that DE that dropped would have been a good pick. But maybe he dropped for a reason I don't know about

For a small guy Linderbaum routinely flattened Big 10 DTs. He would easily add some weight and have been a massive day 1 upgrade over TB.
They showed a video of Linderbaum wrestling Tristen Wirfs in college. And pancaking him. It was very impressive.

He understand leverage. That's huge in the middle of an o-line

I am open to the pick but my concern is his blocking style seems to be a grab, lift and rotate the defender to the ground very similar to Tyron. The guard needs to make contact with their shoulders and drive the legs as opposed to the tackle’s style. Hope he can learn quick.

Maybe so, I watch him on film and see Guard. Kid is athletic and move very well and nasty in his play. I think moving him inside will help him out.
Love the pick a mauler at Guard that will move over when the time cones . . . If Ball develops this line could see the 2016 glory days again

The B grade is starting to gain ground after the initial shock/disappointment reaction

It’s a C to me, because Tyler (yes another Tyler, and another Smith on the OL) .. is and will be a raw developmental process in the making.
But the two huge keys is
1) the quality of coaching he will need, ..
2) and he has to have a chance at extensive game experience.

I strongly assume that he is expected to compete for the LG starting role.
He should help in the run game.
Love the mean nasty mentality- we definitely need that ! - but I do expect penalties and pass rush whiffs.

Hopefully the 1st round OL successful picks continues. ..
