When do we ever build on a successful season? Yes, we were 12-5 last year, but do you believe we're 12-5 or better this year? I doubt anybody does.

We lost a #1 receiver, a Pro-Bowl O-lineman, and a solid #3 receiver and done nothing at all to replace them with equal or better talent.

We are clearly a much worse football team right now then the team that played the 49ers. We've lost a lot of talent and we have the exact same coaching staff in place.

There's a reason why the NFC East rotates winners every year.
The largest loss of the players you mentioned might be Wilson. I think Amari and Collins were moved in part based on cap implications and in part based on culture.

Collins was clearly not a focused player and not worth his contract. Amari doesn’t appear to be an abrasive person but it seems as though he presented presented other issues which is why the Raiders were willing to move on from him in the first place.

It’s sort of like the Giants with Toney. You know there is something going on there.

He got hurt. That’s football. Nothing wrong with the pick. I will give him Hill but the Cowboys were not looking for a receiver and the safeties are JAGS. To early on Joseph.
He had neck issues coming out of college. He was a risk that the Cowboys decided to use their 1st pick on.

I firmly believe Cooper has a better season than Lamb next year.

The Cowboys, more so than most teams, have to be successful in the draft to be successful on the field. They leave virtually no wiggle room for failure when it comes to draft picks.

It's like this because they chose to do nothing meaningful in free agency or in terms of trades. They paint themselves into a corner which then makes the margin for error in the draft very small.

The Cowboys value their draft picks entirely too much. Where as teams like the Rams take advantage of teams that value their draft picks too much. Do you think the Super Bowl champion Rams are upset that they have Matt Stafford or Jaylon Ramsey instead of an unknown 1st round pick?

The Cowboys have a philosophy problem and it's infected every level of this team. The "we like our guys" mentality is certainly alive and well. We've seen the front office give guys contracts they did not deserve simply because we drafted them. This is another example of the Cowboys over valuing their draft picks too much and why they are seemingly getting left behind in the modern day NFL.

I agree 100%. Then also timid in the draft as well. But you'll find people defend this amateur approach.

You're right for one reason only. Because what they do isn't necessarily bad, but to have it as your SOP no matter your roster, and no matter how well you did the previous season is asinine.

The SOP is something you do if you're afraid of making mistakes or never did this before. Like if they put my wife in charge. She doesn't know what she's doing, she's not going to be active in FA at all. She's going to stay put in the draft.

Like I said, it's not a bad procedure, it's only bad when you repeat it every year like it's amateur night.

The consensus board are a bunch of desk jockeys who copy each other’s work/MelKiper etc
Not impressed with Mosher’s journalism
The consensus board is a bunch of people that put their knowledge together regarding NFL prospects to form a ranking system vs. Jerry.

I'm rolling with the consensus board on that one.

Do they not get any credit for having a different philosophy and actually sticking to it? Sure, it isn't what anyone else is doing but sometimes that is what it takes to be a great team.

Have they become, "a great team"? Must've missed that.

Credit for what? It's a good situational philosophy, but they use it regardless of the situation. You or I can do this day 1. Ignore FA and stay put in the draft. They do this every year. My Niece can do that.

I am not a fan of the "no FA's no matter what" philosophy they have employed the last 10 years or so.....BUT....

Do they not get any credit for having a different philosophy and actually sticking to it? Sure, it isn't what anyone else is doing but sometimes that is what it takes to be a great team. Everyone else has been diving into FA for years with mixed results. Most teams don't draft nearly as well as Dallas has and HAVE to jump into FA hard.

I personally love the fact that we put so much emphasis on our draft and build the team this way. I would much rather do it this way than throwing big money at FA's and not having a clue in the Draft.

We have drafted a lot of studs over the recent years....

If they have been doing something that has stunted your ability to get better why in the world should they be given credit for sticking to a flawed strategy? That's bizarre.

And we haven't drafted enough studs obviously because we have 3 playoff wins in 25 years. Your point would have some merit if the team was actually showing some signs of success on the field but they have been one of the WORST TEAMS in the NFL when it comes to postseason success over the last two decades.

They literally ignore something that very well could make them an elite team every single year because they overvalue their ability to draft. Each passing year I realize they really don't have a clue what they are doing.

Not yet ....obviously.

It isn't like they are the Commanders though. That is what people around here act like they are.

Everyone consistently bashed the Pats for letting great players go or adding headcases.

Somehow that worked out for them.

As i have stated many times before....it isn't the talent on the field that is the problem...it has been the coaching.

That is where they have truly screwed up.

They are barely better than the Football Team in terms of actual success when it comes to the important time - postseason.

The WFT has 2 playoff wins in the last 25 years. Dallas has 3. Yeah, we are really killing it compared to them.

They had the greatest QB in NFL history. Belichick knows how to build a competent roster.

We don't. But LOL at trying to use the Patriots as our blueprint.

PS - Coaching has absolutely been an issue here but the rosters have typically always been incomplete and had clear weaknesses that got exploited at crucial times. Anyone who thinks Jerry has consistently built great rosters is just blind.

The OP is spot on with his assessment. This is like letting the computer draft for you in a sim.

It must be so easy to argue for you when all you do is point to the postseason for the Dallas failures.

We all know about that ..try and actually bring something tangible to the discussion.

Coaching has been and continues to be...the biggest Achilles this organization has. It isn't the talent evaluation or the drafting/fa.

This FO has no specific plan on how to build a championship caliber team. Imagine if they had gotten Wagner on FA, and drafted Jermaine Johnson yesterday. Help for Parsons.....this defense would be on its way to be top 5. These buffoons just seem to waddle around acting like they know what they're doing. Another OL similar to Smith would have been available in 2nd round.
