How bad would the melt down have been?

Same reaction for me tbh as I was not on the guard train.

Both Green & Johnson have weaknesses as well. It's not like they are ringers with no risk or question marks.
Agreed, but both of those players had high support here.
I think it would have been some serious complaining going on....

I don’t believe JJ at all that he was 16th on their board. Not at all. If he was their guy— why were they fielding calls and looking to trade back?

They got caught with their pants down again and are now crafting a narrative to convince the world they got the guy they wanted and they are the most competent football minds on the planet.

JJ is so confident and competent he waves the printout of the board around at the presser lol (sarcasm)— but notice no one could actually read it— just had to take his word for it smh lol

The meltdown would have been worse if we'd traded up to 14 to get Tyler Smith. Rumors say Dallas was looking to trade up to 14. And the FO themselves say they had Smith rated 16th on their board. Talk about dodging bullets, phew.
I think the board would have flipped if the Cowboys traded up for Penning, Green, Johnson or any of the receivers.

Everyone in this draft has weaknesses. But I think Zion Johnson is most likely to have a solid career as an OG. We will never know but if KG, ZJ, and Smith were all available, I believe the Cowboys would have taken Green no matter what Jerry says the day after the pick.

Every player has weaknesses
But green and Zion will be day one starters and be good players
Smith may end up the best of the 3 in time but he hasn’t played guard since HS and he’s less polished than with green or Zion for sure
We didn’t have the option of the 3 and in the end we may have the best of the 3 but it’s a much riskier pick than the others would have been and you had a really good DE prospect sitting there, so I get the criticism
I didn’t like the pick over a DE even though guard is a bigger need
But he does have the physical traits to be a road grader in the run game
I just don’t know that he’s a true day one starter

not sure it matters around here. This board loves to bash anything we do.

have injured players....they suck and need to be replaced.

don't sign injured players, we suck and never try.

resign our players....we overpaid

don't resign our players....they'll be better where they go.

this board is only happy when it isn't happy.....

We will see, but the team knows how to pick up 1st round O linemen. The last 3 were arguably HOFers. The traits that Smith has in the bag aren't teachable. The polishing he needs very much is. There are others around the league that though he was one of the better O linemen. After watching him he reminds me a little of Eric Williams. What's important to remember is that he was the best player available on our board.
We'll see, I'm optimistic.
