LB Damone Clark

Is that same procedure as LVE???

Roh-roh
Vander Esch looked really good by the end of the season.
- Quinn had him playing a Stack & Shed style instead of Run & Hit.
- Stack & Shed is the equivalent of 2-gap for a DLineman.
- Stack & Shed LBs must give up some ground to blocks by OLinemen to maintain '2-gap' integrity.
- '2-gap' meaning both sides of the blocker.
- It similar to how OLinemen step backwards in pass blocking but step forward in run blocking.

Vander Esch was not running well early in the season.
- I'm not clear how neck surgery impact running or if there was another injury issue.
- By mid-season he looked much different. He was covering TEs in man with no problems.

They go in from the front of your neck and screw a plate to the front of the affected vertabraes. I went back to work in about 2 and a half months but probably shoud have waited another month.

lol, i learned so much from this post

I agree that he improved as season wore on but LVE will not be on team next season. He is just not great vs run anymore.

He went from an instinctive attacker to a reactive catcher.

Maybe it's the system/role but his ability to diagnose AND get to his spots beyond LOS is nowhere as catalytic as before.

The role is completely different.

They don't have anybody else to play that role. Jabril Cox will play the Neal role.

Parsons can do it, but that would be a waste of his talent to play the stack & shed role.

Most LBs that can play that role are not as good in coverage as Vander Esch.

Parcells had Bradie James in that role and he was great vs the run; however, he was terrible in coverage.

I always figured he was hesitating because he didn't trust the neck....until later in the season.

Wanted Chenal to play that role.

Hopefully Clark can recover 100% and play the role. He certainly was athletic enough to do it.

But he's not my green dot.

I assume he was on the field with Jabril Cox at LSU . I’m waiting to see a heathy # 14 this year . Shame he was hurt on ST .

And I was against a stash pick to be honest but this thread about Clark looks like a guy who can help Dallas. I hope Jerry did the Medicals and Clark can come back strong .

LVE was one of the few bright spots against SF . Hopefully that’s the 55 we resigned while Clark is on the mend .

The Cowboys Doctors are the one that discovered his spinal issue at the combine.

I had heard that . You have to assume they signed off on full recovery . Anything in 22 is gravy . 23 might turn into quite a find . People forget when 54 recovered he had several nice yrs with 55 , Then it hit the fan .

Cannot complain about this stash pick.

Redshirt year.

I like this pick regardless of SI.com giving them a bad grade on the pick. I want be surprised if he
makes his appearance in 2022

Give me 90% of this guy after the neck surgery.

Take the season off to recuperate and focus on improving mental.

Everything I’ve seen and read shows me a highly athletic player whose mental processing caught up with his natural abilities in 2021.

In short, it ‘clicked’ for him last season. I think we’re getting a kid on the doorstep of greatness. As long as the injury doesn’t affect him long term, we may have stolen a first round player.

The only potential downside? We only have him for what is likely three years. Then it will cost big money.
