LOL, Kiper sounds more like SAS....i really watch the draft on the NFLN and a little ESPN.., but with the sound off. I check on it from time to time while doing other stuff. So not into the entire draft like some here. Only concerned with who the Cowboys get. And a 5th round flyer on Damone Clark is great, especially having 3 other picks. You will see next season. its like Dallas got their 2023 2nd round pick this year.
Might even find out about Clark mid season. I think that was a great pick, and a much better round to gamble than the second.

Yeah it seems the opinions were really mixed on Smith, in both the NFL team scouting circles and media draft "expert" circles. However, there were enough teams that liked Smith enough to where most felt he would definitely get picked in the 1st round. I cant remember where I read it, but Dallas, Tennessee and a few other teams liked him in the back half of the 1st round. So we'll see. Hopefully for Dallas, Smith works out and the move inside only enhances his ability to play at the next level.

On Williams. I'm OK with the pick. I actually think he has a higher bust potential than Smith, despite having what should be the "easier" role at least initially. Quinn has a lot of work to do here to coach this young man up.

Fact is we all look at drafting sights but non of these are actual NFL team scouting or team boards. On William your right Quinn has a lot of coaching to do but at least he has something to work with. Williams is 6'04" 261 and put up a 4.46.

how are you putting checks?

"They needed a guard right away, check" - how when everyone says he is a project that needs work and you have him as a sure day 1 starter?

"they needed to replace Gregory with someone on the edge" - again how is this a check? Gregory was a every down DE. They drafted a guy that cant play against the run and another project?

I will give you the wide receiver

we'll see if he can play the run. it could be misleading since he's 260 and played in a 3 man front in the sec. not sure how you expect a guy that size to play de in a 3 man front and not get mauled in the run game. that's OLB size for 3 man fronts.

Mel Kiper on our first two draft picks......
"A penalty waiting to happen" and "Talk about a one trick Pony". OK so he basically destroyed our first two picks with his comment but as I get more information on the players the Cowboys drafted I have to say that this is a typical Cowboys draft especially when I find out that Damone Clark who had spinal fusion surgery and wont even play in 2022, are you freakin kidding me another Jaylon Smith red shirt hopeful. Now the one positive thing I can say about this draft is the Cowboys filled in where they lost players. They needed a guard right away, check, they needed to replace Gregory with someone on the edge, check, and they needed to get another wide reciever, check. Now hopefully these guys will see a lot of playing time and be a factor for years to come.

I don't value Kiper at all but a guy like Brian Baldinger I do

I was listening to NFL radio and had Pat Kirwin on and a caller Cowboy caller came on just complaining about the pick of Tyler Smith. Kirwin said he had spoken with several offensive line coaches around the NFL and most felt that Smith was a 1st rd pick, including Tenn who tried to make a trade with Dallas to take Smith. Caller then went on to complain about Joe Philbin and Kirwin was quick to say that Philbin was quite respected so the caller say look at Conner Williams and Kirwin said Philbin did not draft him but did bench him and said a coach can only do so much for a player, then pointed out to Steele who went undrafted and now is a starter.

Kirwin is a bit too arrogant for my taste, but I trust his evaluation of players more than I trust Kiper's. Still, no matter what anyone says about a player now, we still have to wait until they all get on the field.

I agree, that all players need to show it on the field. My argument is those who are going off on the selection based on what some non NFL scouting is saying about a player. Kirwin talked to several OL coaches who prior to the draft stated that they felt Smith was a 1st rd selection. Does not mean he will pan out or not but the selection was warranted as a 1st rd pick

There are a lot of ?'s about the players drafted and the fact they feel the need to defend the Smith pick with "he was who we always wanted" is typical spin.

Smith must fill the highest need on the team and he is raw and at times undisciplined against better talent. He must be developed by the same coaches that failed with Williams and McGovern up to benching Williams and that didn't work. He was a marked man which didn't help. It doesn't help that I am sure the standing orders for every Cowboys OL is hold if you must but do not give them a free shot at the QB. And Williams was the door to the QB.

Williams is a pass rusher and not a run defender so he should be rotational and situational but I think he'll be as good if not better than Gregory was. At least he played D in the SECW and that's as close to the NFL as it gets.

Tolbert, Ferguson and Waletzko are pretty good picks and should see some playing time. Ferguson will be like Schultz 2.0 for Prescott and on 12 formations could be really good.

Clark is a future and risk pick, instead of the usual 2nd rounder, and he could be a real find. Spinal fusions are real iffy though but he is a talent worth the risk.

Ridgeway should be rotational and he will get every opportunity to make this team as he's only the 2nd drafted Hog and you can bet the Joneses visited with Pittman at AR about him. He will take some refining by the DL coaches just like Smith will by the OL. Don't know why but I have more confidence on the D coaches. One thing about him, he is a mountain of a man and not easy to move.
So, we’re excited because we think we’ve upgraded our roster ? Or just trying to be positive .

If it was a positive comment we’d be going on about it. Not sure why we can’t just admit Smith is a stretch for a 1st round pick as we drafted more for need than talent .

If it works out it’s great. If not we’ll be looking at the picks we passed on are doing. As fans we are allowed to play Monday Morning QB second guessing.

If you just want to take a positive approach that’s fine but we’re ignoring the potential reality. Personally I prefer to proceed with caution and wait and see. At this point it could go either way.

I expect Tyler must prove himself in TC to win the chance "plug and play" at LG.

Should he be allowed to start at LG if he'd failed to pass block adequately?

There's a set process in pro football that starting positions must be earned first.

I disagree. Mel has no skin in the game and I feel he calls it as he sees it where as SAS just hates the the Boys. As far as Clark goes I admit he is worth a flyer but does nothing for Super Bowl aspirations this year plus medically who knows. As far as I can see this draft will be a success if we just get average starters out of a few of these guys but I don't see major impact players anywhere.

I'm saying nothing is given without proving himself in practice and in TC. There's nothing terribly complex to understand about that.

Tyler's pass protection is what he needs to work on to qualify as a starter. I'm sure Dan Quinn will do what it takes to get him there.

When those assigned to work with Tyler refer to working with him on his "execution," that's precisely what they've been referring to.

This is your opinion. . . He is Smart and mean . . . He will do just fine. . . His holding calls weren't because He got beat . . . They came from him slamming guys to the ground. . . Also your concearn over his pass blocking is a mute point because He is playing Guard and not LT.

What is there not to love about this pic?

Get over the penalties. . .

Get over your preconceived man-love for him, just because you're emotionally enthralled with the idea of him being a starter. There's no shame in a rookie being coached up if he's unable to cut the mustard in pass pro. Being placed at guard doesn't automatically qualify him to excel in everything needed to start, whether it's at tackle or guard. Coaching is what he'll get.

Get over your infatuation and be patient enough to allow the testing process to work. You asked me what I was talking about and I explained it. If you can't or won't accept it, that's your privilege. It's my privilege to have my opinion.

Nothing is given to any rookie without proving himself worthy. Would you want to see him start if he can't do any better than what Connor Williams did? If so, that's on you. Don't doubt the fact that I want Tyler Smith to prove himself. I surely want that to occur and to see him become successful.

Lol . . . only a smacked *** uses the word privilege . . . you are the one emotional and hell bent on tearing this kid down . . you are tge one talking as if it is a full blown conclusion that this kid can't pass block.

Our weakest link has been light in the ***. . . Mr. Nice Guy Williams . . now that he is gone and the Cowboys got a Mauler I am Extreamely happy and you should be too.

But no . . . you are not . . . You are on a campaign to attack him

Be patient Grasshopper
