I think the Browns should be forced to trade him for Dak...zero games suspended. His punishment will obviously be that he'll never sniff a Super Bowl in a Cowboys uniform.

What's sad? Watson’s contract w/the Browns was for a $45 million signing bonus plus a salary of only $1 million for the season. Since signing bonuses are not subject to being withheld under suspension rules, Watson would lose, in a worst-case-scenario, only the salary of $1 million.

So much for hitting him in the pocket book. One year suspension is a vacation w/pay for him.

This proves only one thing.....if you rich like OJ you can get away with murder....
If you rich like Watson you can get away with unauthorized happy endings.....

I'm real curious as to what the commish is gone do here..

Thank you WoodysGirl for the news post.
This situation is so cluttered and convoluted ---and is subject to decision(s) made under the murky and -not-up-to-date discpline guidelines and standards needed to intensely review allegations against ALL people employed by the league - either directly or through the 32 team franchises and their affiliates.

So would Darren Sharper still be able get a pass like Watson if he was an active player in the leauge? If he dosent get at least 2 years then somethings not right.

Though it does mean the Browns do not get to recoup any of the lost money due to a suspension which they honestly should not get to because they were stupid to make that deal in the first place.

Difference is that there is no evidence Joseph was a willing participant in that crime. Instead he's been the key witness & they had two suspects confess.
Yep, and that makes sense.

But also everything against Watson is alleged at this point, no?

I'm honestly not following that situation closely so I may be very wrong.

I'm just trying to figure out what Goodell may do (specifically to Joseph, I couldn't care less about the Browns problems lol) which is whatever makes him look the best in the eyes of the public.

I guess so much for Watson wanting to clear his name. 20 settlements and NDA's won't do that.

Goodell has to consider this guy has been proclaiming his innocence and that he would never disrespect women yet he doesn't want his day in court to clear his name.

This guy has serial offender written all over him and he's owned none of his deeds.

I read that it is in his contract that the most he can lose this season is1M and I don't know how in the hell they can skirt a suspension when that usually means forfeiture of pay for the games missed.

If he had the full 47m in salary this season the Browns could get that back if he were suspended, but he does not so while he will only lose up to 1m the Browns will still eat all of the cap space for making the dumb decision they made to sign him to that contract. They will now will have no picks, no cap space, and will have massive cap hits the next 4 years on their QB and likely get nothing for it.

Who cares?

Why are we holding a person's employer responsible for discipline? We have a criminal justice system. This is so stupid. Player X does something dumb and they deal with it legally and take their punishment. That should be the end of it. Why is the league punishing them too? ****.

NFL PERSONAL CONDUCT POLICY
League Policies for Players
2018

"...Following review, the Commissioner, either directly or through a member of his staff, will communicate his decision to the player regarding any disciplinary action to be taken. Depending on the nature of the violation and the player’s record, discipline may be a fine, a suspension for a fixed or an indefinite period of time, a combination of the two, or banishment from the league with an opportunity to reapply...

With regard to violations of the Personal Conduct Policy that involve: (i) criminal assault or battery (felony); (ii) domestic violence, dating violence, child abuse and other forms of family violence; or (iii) sexual assault involving physical force or committed against someone incapable of giving consent, a first offense will subject the offender to a baseline suspension without pay of six games, with consideration given to any aggravating or mitigating factors. The presence of possible aggravating factors may warrant a longer suspension. Possible aggravating factors include, but are not limited to, a prior violation of the Personal Conduct Policy, similar misconduct before joining the NFL, violence involving a weapon, choking, repeated striking, or when an act is committed against a particularly vulnerable person, such as a child, a pregnant woman, or an elderly person, or where the act is committed in the presence of a child. A second offense will result in permanent banishment from the NFL. An individual who has been banished may petition for reinstatement after one year, but there is no presumption or assurance that the petition will be granted..."

This is why and all credit goes to DallasEast for the repost of a copy of the post

The Ben Roethlisberger suspension has the most similarities to Watson's situation. He was suspended 6 games, which was reduced to 4. That was 2010. Quite a bit has changed since then and obviously Watson has many more accusations to his name.
