Bears = 44 Cowboys = 0

This one doesn't really bother me. They were good, we were awful. Only thing I had against them was they played dirty. They put a brutal shot on our QB who was already on the ground. Whenever we talk about the rules making the game too soft, I am reminded that plays like that needed to be removed from the game.

I'm only 31, so most of the really bad moments were before my time, but in no particular order:

- Randy Moss game.
- Aikman's retirement/Irvin's career ending injury.
- Losing to the Texans in 2002.
- Campo years collectively. Seemed like every time I watched a game or checked the FOX ticker at the bottom of the screen back then, it was an L.
- Emmitt being cut and signing with the Cardinals.
- Botched Romo fumble. Still don't think I'm over it to this day.
- Parcells moving on.
- Losing to the Giants in the '07 Divisional.
- Brett Favre 34-3 rout my Freshman year of college back in '09.
- Imploding against the Ravens in the Texas Stadium finale.
- 2009 Draft.
- Starting 1-7 in 2010, which ultimately led to the hiring of Garrett.
- 3 straight 8-8 seasons, with each of our division rivals sending us on our way in de-facto championship games the last week of the season.
- The loss against the Broncos in the famous Romo/Payton Manning duel.
- Dez catch/Demarco Murray fumble.
- Cliff Avril sack on Romo in the preseason.
- Panthers Thanksgiving Day debacle.
- Aaron Rodgers to Jared Cook on 3rd and 20.
- 42-17 loss against the Broncos in 2017.
- Allowing almost 300 yards rushing to Gurley and CJ Anderson.
- Losing to a moribund Jets team in 2019, and our defense being clowned by Darnold post-game.
- 2021 WC game against SF.

The Dez caught it debacle.

This is easily the worst of the last twenty years for me.

It's one thing to get beaten but it's something else entirely to have your chance taken away because a professional football league is going thru a period where they don't understand what a catch is. Everyone in the world knew Dez had control of the ball & purposefully turned up field. Even GB fans were embarrassed by the ruling.

  • The worst days in my life as a sports fan:
    • Bears 44, Cowboys 0.
    • Erik Williams car wreck.
    • Romo stopped short of the goalline after the botched snap.
    • The Patrick Crayton Drop.
    • Keeping Doug Free and letting Parnell sign with Jacksonville. ;)
    • Travis Frederick retiring.
  • The worst things not directly involving the Cowboys:
    • Eli winning 2 Super Bowls.
    • Tom Brady being born.
Great list. But the dez dropped it call gotta be up there too

Yes, Dez was an idiot.

The refs would never have been involved if he had just caught the ball instead of jacking around.

My all-time happiest Cowboys moment might be when they cut that pile of human excrement.

The day Tom Landry was unceremoniously fired was the saddest day in cowboy history and there isn't a close second.

The worst moment was Dwight Clark's catch and the loss that followed. The Catch as its called was a turning point in the history of both franchises and ushered in the end of an era.

Media savvy Landry orchestrated the 'unceremonious' aspect of that ordeal and suckered Jerry into going to the golf course.

Unceremonious would have been telling him over the phone which did happen with Rob Ryan...

Landry normally would have been in Dallas, but hid from Jerry.

Rich guy owners rarely ever fly to meet the coach that they're going to fire. It was actually a show of respect, but Landry had already primed the media to set the narrative.

It still makes me nauseous to see a photo of Danny White.

I started to watch some show recently but couldn't because one of the main actors looked like Danny White.

Still want to punch him in the face for each INT that he threw.

That's odd.
Because i thought Danny White helped put us in position to have a chance to win over Montana/Niners in 1981 NFC title game.
Until Montana flat our broke our defense and our spirit with that infamous 89 y.d scoring drive in the final deciding minutes of the game.
En route to " The Catch ".. where Everson Walls did not seem to have a clue of where the thrown ball or Dwight Clark was in the end zone ....

Honestly, and not to make light, but doesn't the fact that the Cowboys won the Super Bowl that season kind of make Lett's blunder pretty moot/irrelevant?

It did, sure. But at the time, it was just devastating. I was much younger then, with not a lot of worldly concerns other than keeping $5 of gas in my car and a pack of smokes in my coat, and so I dwelled on losses to the extreme. Much like in my high school days, when the Cowboys lost, it ruined me for 3-4 days (depending on the severity of the loss) before I started to move on to the next game.

The '88 and '89 teams were awful. The strike year team was awful. The '86 team was average.

The '85 team won the NFC East and made the playoffs with a 10-6 record. An argument can be made whether they were average that year. Awful? They were not awful.

1) 81 NFC Championship lost to the Niners

2) 44-0 lost to the Bears in 1985
I believe this was the first time the Cowboys lost
to the Bears

3) Losing to the Texans in there first game as
a franchise

Fair pushback. They started well but were 5-5 to close out the season and were shutout in the playoff game. So yeah, maybe I remember them more on how they closed the season & knowing they had no shot against Chicago if they got that far. Not awful but it felt awful.
