I remember the pace he was on but not only did he get injured the OL regressed. Neither him or Pollard was doing much at that point. It’s not like Zeke is getting any younger. His production this season will all come down to the OL and how well our defense plays. You can’t pound the ball all day if you’re playing from behind. Our passing game may not be as good this season so we may have to run the ball more but we also need to score points.
Emmitt didn't get all those yards by himself either.

History isn't saying it's unlikely, you are. The guts you mentioned, Emmitt and Walter, went from middle school to high school, then to college. Think of all the touches they had before making it into the NFL. You can't use one man's past to predict another man's future. It doesn't work that way. Zeke isn't those other guys and those other guys aren't Zeke. Time will tell the truth about Zeke. Not history.
I certainly agree with you that Zeke isn’t Walter Payton or Emmitt Smith. My point about those guys vs almost all other NFL RBs is really simple- unless they’re Payton or Emmitt or Adrian Peterson…they don’t stay effective more than 6-8 yrs. That’s what history tells us.

You’re right, I don’t know what’s going to happen with Zeke this year. As a Cowboys fan I hope he has a good year. As a student of NFL history, the odds are against him.

And yes, time will tell.

Yep. It's about that time for the annual Zeke looks fit posts.

I can't wait for the day when we aren't overpaying at the TB position.
week 4-18 "he's playing hurt"

Eventually, he WILL leave/quit/retire/get traded. What will you do? Do a Shannon Sharpe dance and scream “I tol’ you! I tol’ you!” Is that your fondest wish, to have your gridiron guruness “validated”? Does winning on the internet supersede Cowboy success?
To some opposing team fans pretending to be a Cowboys fan yep

Unless he is injured he will be over 1,000 yards in a 17 game season. I hope to see better than just 1,000 yards in a 17 game schedule. Last season he avg just 13 carries a game and played on a bad knee for much of the season and still got 1,000 yards.

I get his contract is over the top but fans tend to overlook he's simply not getting the carries in MM/KM system. In his defense, it's not his fault MM doesn't prioritize the RB position. But either way, this is likely his last season in a Cowboy uniform.

No he didn’t but he had great escape ability and a burst. He made a lot of great runs on his own. Once you get past the line of scrimmage it’s up to the back.

So you are saying only 3 RB ever made it past 7 years? Hmmm.....

That's Jerry and McCarthy's fault! Maybe even Garrett, or maybe how bad the O-line is at protection, or......................
Yes. If that happens before zeke even gets the ball...I'm certainly not blaming him.

I am also not saying zeke will perform to epic 2016 level.

But saying zeke flamed out three years ago is just pure stupidity. Brain dead cow.

It's not about "winning on the internet".

It's about living in reality and seeing the writing on the wall with certain things.

It's not that I want Zeke to be bad. It's just the nature of the position and the decline he's had every single year.

Just because he has a star on his helmet does not require us to be unrealistic about things.
You make several points I agree with. I’m certainly not blind to the decline. All I’m saying is it’s useless wasting time stressing. 1200+ From Zeke, plus 600-800 from Pollard is pretty good, especially added to 3600-4800 passing.

They can restructure and still cut him later on. Same principal, but just delayed a few more years. Depends on his performance. Which still may not be him. Could be Moore and his stupid play calling too.

Not really. In a restructure, they have to guarantee more money and push it into the future, increasing the dead money hit in future years. Why would you push way more money into the future for a TB?

A restructure only saves cap space now. It makes future cap hits larger and makes it tougher to cut a guy later. It would be downright idiotic for the Cowboys to restructure Elliott at this point (and it appears they realize it because they could have restructured him this year to save a lot of cap space but they chose not to and restructured other guys instead).
