Bobby Belt was just on 105.3 The Fan —

Kelvin Joseph was “completely” in the doghouse all of last season.

He was “incredibly” immature throughout rookie year.

Coaches had little to no trust in him.

“Very poor practice player.”

Bobby said he’d rather have Kelvin Benjamin than Kelvin Joseph.

What a terrible mistake. They already knew this about him before they drafted him. Took him over Asante Samuel Jr. SMH.

Here's a drive-by in Jackson County.

They only found 1 gun in the car but they arrested all three occupants. Do you guys think they passed the gun around when they were shooting at the house? They only arrest the guy(s) who pull(s) the trigger in these situations, right?

The weird thing is every time I look up drive-by shootings in Texas they keep arresting everyone in the car. It's almost as if Joseph is getting some kind of special treatment.

Having a high priced attorney makes one hell of a difference in the US legal system.

Typical Dallas 2nd round pick. Taking risks...

No, I just like dots that are verified. What staff or players on this team are saying anything bad about him or his work ethic/preparedness? We saw him show up on the field with his play. That has to come from somewhere.
Look, it's simple. When the adults fire up a work day and you have a job to do and you're doing the right things, people won't talk about what a d-bag you are to work with.
People act like it's made up but it fits the character.
And speaking of on the field. Sure! He has the potential to be a gifted athlete, but lets pump the brakes on showing up, he almost immediately went on IR and didn't actually see much of the field.
And I highly doubt he was spending his time on his rap career because he's awful, so hopefully football works out for him.

Long story short- Another stupid 2nd "potential" pick.

I'm acting like it's made up because I haven't seen anything verifiable from this team, which is what I've been asking. I'm guessing it isn't out there except for "sources." And if that's the case then I put this on the level of the "mutual interest" talk we heard throughout the free agency season with the Cowboys and some of the big names out there. Due diligence, they said. Lol. I'm not going to call the Joseph pick stupid after only 1 year when he did flash in his first times out there. To each their own.

Did you say the same thing after Gregory's first season? Because there's 6 years we'll never get back.
Hey, I hope I'm wrong. Sincerely.
Belt is a straight shooter, he doesn't do things for clicks.

Very hard
Hard to determine if a guy plays for the love of them game when he is also about to get paid huge money

Right. There's a lot I could love if you paid me enough to do it.

I think what Marcus is saying (and what I feel) is essentially this: People have biases. They have preconceived notions. They also tend to exaggerate and elaborate as the story gets told and re-told.

For all we know this is a pick that Belt hated to begin with and he’s looking to run with anything negative that he hears. Maybe not though, and I don’t dislike Belt at all.

For all we know, Belt has one player in the locker room that he gets info from and that one player was dissed by Joseph and doesn’t like him, and so talks bad about him knowing that Belt would repeat it. But maybe not. Perhaps it is several players and the info is right on… but we don’t know.

Maybe Belt knows an employee at the Star who saw some players walk by Joseph without speaking and just made an assumption that he isn’t liked. Or maybe his team mates can’t actually stand the guy and the report is accurate. We just don’t know.

Maybe it is all true.

Maybe Belt is reporting word for word what he heard but the info he got is way off base.

Maybe Belt heard something small and blew it up into something much larger because of a preconceived notion. Maybe he heard that a coach looked upset when talking to Joseph and he turned that into the whole staff hating him.

That is all the point: We have no verification or context on any of this information. Like I said, maybe it is all true… but IMO, we should wait to vilify and persecute the guy until we actually know something solid… because at this point we do not.

Personally, I would tend to stay away from this kind of character issues in the draft - particularly in the early rounds - but with him onboard, I am going to give him a chance to prove himself worthy or not. Right now there is no solid, tangible anything to run the guy off for.

That is IMO, of course.

Gregory's a different guy and situation entirely and his story has already played out with us. He still probably showed us a little more than Connor Williams did for us as a 2nd rounder and his story is also done here. The draft is risk. Some guys get on the field and do nothing and some have issues that prevent them from getting on the field. Joseph's arc is just beginning. How sharp it is will be up to him but he's looked good when out there. Plus he's cheap. That's what kept Gregory around no matter the Disney feel-good, wonderfully generous Cowboys narrative fans concocted to hold over Gregory's head to hammer him with if he didn't re-sign here. Called that one before the season even began.

Don't know this Belt guy but the minute a member of the media, with a Twitter account and all, doesn't care about clicks, he better have a separate retirement plan going on in the background.

Or maybe Belt knows the preconceived Joseph narrative very well as I've been saying and is giving the people what they so want to believe in the first place. That's the great media ping pong game: show people what makes them mad but balance it out by showing them what they want to believe to stroke their "I was right" ego. Both are ratings winners. The "Dak wants $40M a year" rumor I mentioned earlier falls into the latter category ("all athletes are greedy").

Old news even if just released. So, despite being in the doghouse all year, the minute one of our starting 3 CBs went down, he was still the first man put in the game, even ahead of the training camp hero, Nahshon Wright. And he played well. Why would we fans go from hopeful based on last season’s limited work to “what a wasted draft pick” over the year old news that he was immature and in the doghouse last season?

Always the knee jerk with Cowboys fans.

Sources close to the team have spoken about him not being a team player and was awful last season. Beyond the absence and the murder case. They were actually doing a pretty good job keeping things quiet. His job is football, if he's not taking it serious enough who wants to give him benefit of the doubt? He's made his own bed.
Please illuminate on this, how could he have been awful if we watched him play and he was far from awful?

My thing here is we do not know what off field habits are accurately reported and which are not. But when dude played CB he looked like a good player who had the chance to be a high quality starter.

I was one of the Twitter thread posters last year from TC all throughout the season. I did weekly sweeps of all the Cowboys news sites after every game. I did not see any founded complaints about KJ’s work habits at all and did not see that manifest onto the field. That’s kind of why this report caught me off-guard because I never saw anything about this last season.

In fact, Quinn praised him as he returned from injury about him doing his homework and being locked in.

I guess this next season will tell us the truth but when he played he looked real good which will give him a longer leash with the team.

Yup exactly. Don’t get the wasted pick talk based on on-field performance. Off-field you have an argument but when dude played he played well. See Trysten Hill and Taco Charlton for how guys who are “in the doghouse” are treated.

Sure he looked good on a couple occasions, but he wasn't available all season long. I hope he takes full advantage if he's given opportunities.
