Despite the loss at Empower Field at Mile High, McCarthy was pleased with the number of quality snaps the young players got Saturday. He liked the team's run production (28 carries for 141 yards) and run defense (1.8 yards allowed per carry).

McCarthy: Penalties “Way Too Much” vs. Broncos (dallascowboys.com)

It is so hard to get anything teamwise out of these games but I thought the running game, commitment to the run, and the run defense looked pretty good. But it was scrubs against scrubs for the most part.

The RBs showed some potential but I did not see much else that stood out. The penalties were ridiculous of course.

I will say I thought the officiating of the game was pretty bad too. Some of the Cowboys penalties were BS, but many were deserved. I also noticed a few bad spots of the ball, a couple of times the clock was stopped when it should have kept running and little things like that. I guess the refs need a game or two to get settled in as well.

I myself don't count the preseason as much but if we're going to believe that the scrubs vs scrubs penalty fest and horrible pass pro was representative of the team we'll be seeing on the field this season why don't we believe that the huge holes our guys were busting through and the brick wall the Denver RBs slammed into all night was real too? The Cowboys run game, offense and defense, looked a heck of a lot more than "pretty good" to me.

I liked when they had Bo and Big John in there together. They didn't get tested much but i like that they are trying it.

MM doesn't make any sense at all when he talks, personally I think he should beat his head against the wall for an hour, then try speaking to the press. He'd probably make more sense with a bunch of knots protruding from his head! After being in Denver for three days, I'm wondering if training camp was just an illusion to all of us. This team looks like they haven't worked on anything.........................or is it just lousy coaching?

Run blocking by Ball was good. Pass blocking...

I thought Denver did a lot of stunting and blitzing which the young offensive linemen struggled picking up. I thought they did okay when they were blocking straight up. I didn't see anyone get manhandled constantly.

I thought the Cowboys OL and DL were a bit more physical than the Broncos DL/OL.

The issues seemed to be more about mistakes than physical ability issues.

Even the Josh Ball pass blocking issues looked more like technique issues than a lack of ability.
- i.e. Oversetting outside & getting his weight on his outside foot making it easy for pass rushers to come back inside.

I don't try to analyze the 2nd half OL lineups with almost all practice squad type players.
- Interesting that Big Mex had good stats in terms of not allowing pressures, but the level of competition in the 4th quarter is questionable.
