I mean sure, Kearse and Hooker turned out to be good, cheap signings last year.

But for those two, there are dozens of failures by the Jones' in their whole bargain bin shopping FA strategy.

And those two ‘hits’ can be offset by Kazee and millions wasted on Keanu Neal, who didn’t come close to being worth it.

I don’t think there is any chance they sign Eric Fisher

I fear you're correct, on that score -- Fisher has been spoiled, by way of fat contracts -- good luck with that, Cowboys FO! :omg:

This crew also signed Everson Griffin in 2020 who finished the season with the Lions. So that makes me suspect of the Barr signing. Our front offices’s track record isn’t really better than any other team. Win some lose some.

Who is left:

My top 3 from that list would be Sheldon Richardson, JC Tretter, and Xavier Rhodes. Richardson gives us a nice DT to go with what we have. JC Tretter would give us an upgrade at C, and means that we can move Farnoik to G if needed and Smith to Lt when Tyron goes down. Rhodes gives us a nice addition at CB. As a 4th choice, I'd probably go with Eric Fisher for depth in case Tyron gets injured.

Fowler and Barr haven't taken a real snap for us. Not sure I'd spike the ball on those guys yet.

Cowboys were due to lose a boat load of important players this offseason. They did a great job getting rid of who they should and keeping that defense in tact. Personally I am happy they didnt sign gregory. Some offseasons are spent keeping your team together. Other seasons you have more of a chance to improve your team through FA.

JC Tretter and Eric Fisher would upgrade our offense of line and give us a margin of error if Tyron went down. We should make it happen before it's too late and Dak is on his back or injured.
What part of protecting your investment is Jerry not understanding.

Exactly, and players like Tretter and Fisher are insurance for Dak. We know that Tyron doesn't usually make it through a full season lately. Therefore, might as well get some very good depth on the oline as extra insurance.

In the last 2 years they have signed Turpin, Barr, Fowler, Kearse and Hooker. I think that Eric Fisher might be next. They have built a good team. It looks like we have some excitement brewing.

The only gold there right now is Kearse. The rest is TBD.

Those are not the "bad" examples I'd use.
Neal was a 1 year stop gap that we paid 4M. He played a fair amount of snaps for that money.
Kazee was a vet min deal and played well enough here before moving on to the Steelers.

Both guys are still in the NFL
Neither were highly paid.

Rhodes isn't joining to be a backup here.

Griffin was a failed signing. He couldn't play in our system at all.
But yea if you go get 4-5 stop gaps you will hit and miss.

You are spot on Rusty.

Failure to prepare for Tyrone's health issues is preparing to fail in my opinion.

Exactly, and, if the FO would have an honest look at Tyron's history, they'd see that acquiring a top backup is important. Not to play all the time. Just to step in for Tyron.
