It was being reported and seen that Conner McGovern was getting reps at center vs Seattle in the
last preseason game .

i wonder what is going out with that OL move rather than promise reserve backup Matt Farniok ?

McGovern has been a bust as an OG, but does his rep at center means he gets the call first before Farniok if Tyler Biadasz gets dinged or goes down ?

Excellent observation and question!
Could be they are just working on position flex for an emergency situation.

I think this decision was before Tyron's injury, but he is probably ahead of Farniok on the depth chart as well. Farniok could very well become the active gameday swing if McGovern starts at LG.

The coaches have been watching these players in practice for at least two years they are not putting a lot of weight on one preseason game.

Most likely.

For whatever reason, they've never given McGovern a chance at C. I doubt they'd be starting in his final year with Biadasz entrenched as the starter and Farniok the presumptive backup.

It does seem to be a sign that Farniok might not make the gameday roster, and will only take over at C if Biadasz can't start a game.

I think they just wanted to see what their options are. Knowing Tyron is down I have no idea what the purpose of playing McGovern would be. I thought McGovern was pretty awful at C. He's a guard. Farniok is a better C than G and if Biadasz goes down I think Faniok should be the guy to replace him.

You just pretty much answered your own question by saying... McGovern has been a bust at LG. They may want Farniok to be the starter or backup at LG.

LT-Smith
LG-Farniok
C-Badiasz
RG-Martin
RT-Steele

I'm OK with that lineup.

Thanks, it is interesting

Wanna hear an interesting nugget.........guess who's the Dolphin's starting center? You got it ........Connor Williams. Yep, the same Connor Williams that beat McG for the LG position. Now we hear McG is getting snaps at.......center (lol).

Guess they're trying to find out exactly where this guy can look even serviceable. Shades of the other Conner dude. Right before he got shipped out. Don't get your hopes up too much. McGovern just looks overmatched no matter where they put him. Hard to believe he was picked in the 3rd round, what a gem he turned out to be. He is in his final year of his contact so we shall see if he is worth a second one.

BTW, there is another Conner McGovern playing C for the Jets. how 'bouit that.

Is Connor McGovern someone this team should bring back at the right price as NFL depth ?

MCGovern will probably be the swing G/C and FB
Seems logical
We could carry an extra tackle that way on game day roster or have Farniok active to backup center

Well his worth is as depth at G basically . I think his trials at center have proved negative . So I guess the answer is no . Farniok serves that role as G/C depth .

If McGovern is starting at LG, ..the Hulk package should be outta the window.
As very questionable as he is as a starter, and as questionable as overall depth is, he's now too valuable for that.
Get a Farniok for that.

If McGovern is a starter at LG, and he's asked to swing over to center, ..what does that say about the confidence for Farniok ?

If Farniok is on Gameday active list, he's instantly gonna be a backup, whether at C or OG.

Who else is there ?
