The only coach I saw who used to chain smoke in the booth.
I had a nickname for him, but I won't say it here.
In truth, he was a great OC at one point in time. Just not very creative and didn't really know how to adjust without a dominant offensive line.

I first heard of him in one of those old NFL preview magazines in the early 80s that had a play calling quiz based on what Zampese would have called. It was when he was with the Chargers. He was considered a great offensive mind even then.
