Why should I stay a Cowboys fan?

I plan to stay a Cowboys fan as long as I can stomach it. For the longest time, I've been a diehard Cowboys fan. However, I just have to ask. Why should I stay a Cowboys fan? This is the first time I can remember truly questioning it. However, the statements Jerry made about essentially wanting us to be talked about being more important than winning guts me as a young fan. I started watching this franchise in about 2000. I gobbled up everything Cowboys, and I still always want to stay on this board. That said, what's the point of cheering on a team when the owner cares more about the Forbes Bowl than winning the Super Bowl? It's clear now why he makes the moves he makes. It's clear to me now why he won't do what it takes to win, such as a proper GM, better coaching, and why it's always one side of the ball that's atrocious and one side that's not.

I'm writing this thread to ask for help. Help me to understand why I should stay a fan. I plan to do so just because I don't have another team I'd support, and I enjoy this board. Overall, I still very much enjoy the Cowboys, and I like our players. However, Jerry's statements felt like a slap to the face when I've taken every insult from other fans. I spurned the Eagles, whom most of my family supports. I spurned the Broncos when my favourite animal is clearly a horse. I spurned the Texans when they started to stay a Cowboys supporter. I've happily taken the insults. And for what? A team who is run by an owner who couldn't care less about winning?

Again, I'm NOT quitting the Cowboys. I'm more venting my anger with what Jerry stated and asking for help on why I should carry on as I plan to do so as a Cowboys fan.

Also, for those who say "You're a quitter", I've been one of the most positive fans on this board. I've always tried to stay positive no matter what. I'm still trying to stick to the Cowboys. Also, how would you respond to Jerry's comments if you were in my shoes having never seen us get to the NFC Championship game?

I saw the Cowboys play in, and win, multiple SBs as a kid, so I can't relate to being your age and never seeing them come close. I probably would've been frustrated after 29 years of nothing, especially not living in the Dallas area and having no other Cowboys fans in the family, that I'd have moved on. Not saying YOU should - that's up to you - but I'm fed up with how the team is managed and don't have faith in the Jones boys. I get it.

But I've been a fan too long - I'm going down with the ship, hoping to see one more magical run before my time is up.

Hey Rusty,
Sorry you can't find more happiness in following this team.
I have 47 years invested so I am a fan for the rest of my life.
The way Jerry runs this team has made it difficult to feel good about its' direction.
Jerry acts like an amatuer in his GM decisions and does not seem to understand even the basics of roster construction at times.
The best hope is that he is 80 years old and can't run the team forever.
Hopefully Stephen will make better decisions or hire a real GM.
As a young fan you have the hope that after Jerry things will improve.
As long as he is in control we will get more of the same.

I've known you before you went to college. You're a very smart young man. And a Christian too. That said, you'll continue being a Cowboys fan because it's in the blood. Hang in there, you'll be around to see Jerry gone.

That's pretty much what I'm trying to do. And I'm going to try to stay as positive as I can. I just want the FO to show that they care and are trying. It's like going to a restaurant. You want the staff and all to show that they care and are trying. If they show that the product doesn't matter so much as the check, then you're not going to have a good experience.

I'm going down with the ship too, as I've stated. But my goodness, Jerry doesn't deserve it, especially with what he said.

Oh, and for those that question my loyalty, look at my fursuit in my pfp .I literally had Cowboys decals put on my fursuit and made the team a huge part of the character I portray at cons. I don't intend to quit the team. However, I am gutted by the comments, and I think other fans my age probably are.

Jerry doesn't bother me. I've learned at the end of the day NFL and other sports are just entertainment. It's fun being a fan but it's not like I get obsessed over them anymore.
I was too young to truly digest the early 90's teams. I mainly just remember the Barry & Gailey years onward, so it's not like I witnessed greatness and still remember it.

But it's something about this team I just love. No matter who the QB, WRs, DEs, coach, etc are. Jerry is an owner first, and he wants a successful franchise. Successful means value.
Cowboys are #1 there.

you shouldn't, so go, tuck your tail between your legs and leave. Your negativity isn't wanted around here.

Weird. Why do you think someone else can give you reasons to be a fan?

More or less to help with perspective. Essentially, I've never seen us win anything beyond reaching the division round, and then Jerry made the comments he did. So, I'm more or less trying to find a perspective for this as it felt insulting what Jerry said.

That we are, and it is entertainment. It's partly why I follow English Football more than American Football now (along with the season being longer haha).

I'm not quitting the team, and I made that clear in the thread numerous times. I'm venting about how aghast I am at Jerry's comments when I've never seen a championship.
Lmao. Just giving you crap. I am 52. Have seen us win and lose SBs. Hang in there. When this team makes it you will see us win one. You just will not get to see the team we did in the 90’s. Salary cap prevents it. When we go we will be dominate on one side. Maybe this year on Defense.

Tex and 90s Cowboys build a strong brand where all the kids at that time were cowboys fans, outside of Texas.

Last 20 years, I can't convince my own kids to root for Cowboys, lot of fan base for NE in the last 20 year. So what happens after the old timers like me are gone? Stephen and team will not have a strong fan base to exploit anymore

I get that, but my goodness, it can be hard to not take it passionately haha, and I'm a passionate fan of this team, just as I am with Bournemouth. Then again, with Bournemouth, I know we're probably not going to win the league because we simply don't have the resources for it. That's ok because I know that and because the team tries. I just wish the Cowboys would try a bit harder with FAs for example. Show to us fans that they are trying as hard as they can.

Exactly, and what happens to the Cowboys then? Will they be clever enough to understand they need SBs? Or will they essentially just belly up and be the Jets?

I don't need them to be the 90s, but us winning the SB would be such fun. I'd love to experience it.

I am familiar with your feeling. I am a cowboys fan. always been. will always remain. but the question is how excited I am for this season? I simply am not. I don't care oneway or other...will I be happy if we win? of course. will I get upset if we lose. I will not.....

I am not planning my sundays around cowboys game. if I miss a game. then I miss a game. will I look at the score? if the game is on and I happen not to be doing anything, will I watch the game? yes. Am I going to be glued to the TV and scream? I will not. If I don't like what I see, I won't be upset, I simply turn off the TV and walk away. I simply don't have any excitement what so ever any longer. I will not buy merchendise, or go to the game. I am not going to make dent in Jerry's hype and marketing machine. there are plenty that will continue. Jerry has tapped into the entertainment factor of the NFL fans, bringing in those fringe fans who are not die hard and selling them a good time.

if we make it to the playoffs and then to the second round of playoffs, I will probably become interested and excited. not until then. although even if we go to the second round, we will probably lose. 28+ years says so.

Jerry has led us down this path before. we have been through this up and down cycle, 7 or 8 times in the past 28 years. jerry up front and center early in the season and preseason, jerry taking credit if things go well and then toally disappearing when it doesn't, only to reappear after the season promising change, can't have it, making a FA signing or two. Jerry is really good at generating hope, marketing and fans lap it up.

this is going to be another let down season. probability of it is 98%. I simply will not bet on the 2%.

I know I'm going to miss the game against the Colts cuz I'll be flying back from a convention that night (as long as they don't flex it), but yes, I am probably going to be planning my days less around game days, especially with more of my sporting attention lately going to English Football.

Jerry says a lot of stupid stuff. Hell, he finds a way to give a 3 paragraph response and still not answer a question.
I wouldn't put any stock into what he says. He just loves attention.
Honestly, there was a time back in the early 2000's prior to Tuna coming here where I thought about flipping teams. Might of been around high school. But I just couldn't make the switch. Even with a bad owner(my dad really hated him back then) bad draft picks, no present or future looking roster I just couldn't stop being a fan.
