Any time you hold Tampa & Tom Brady to 1 TD and a total of 212 yards,l your defense did well. We got sacks and pressure and the defense didn't get beaten to a pulp like the offense who basically hung the defense out to drive. Seriously, only allowing 19 points is very good.
People chirp about yards all the time, but when they result in a bunch of FGs against Brady, it was a good day.

I said all along stopping the run is a defensive weakness, but put things in perspective. The offense scored 3 points on the first drive and then went completely scoreless the rest of the game.

1. Can’t stop the run with slop at DT and your only good LB at DE

2. great defense is not about the splash play it is about gap control, sound tackling, discipline and physicality . We don’t have any of these

Yeh because giving up multiple 20 plus yard passes byTB12 for a quick score is a better option when your offense can't even get to the midfield.
It's not about options, and your facepalm is really weak, dude. Try something better.

Listen closely. If you cannot stop the run, then you must commit more players to stopping it. That's why we were giving up those passes. You speak as if the two are not related, when in fact they are hand in hand.

It’s tough to knock them for giving up 19 points though when the offense scored 3 points. So yeah I’m he D has a lot to work but they committed no penalties and limited a good offensive team to 19 points. It wasn’t pretty but we all would take that. They have the offense good field position on a interception and still did nothing. At the end of the day it’s about points. Yards look bad for stats purposes but I could careless I’d they give up yards.
Analysis from a different perspective: The point total was a bit low because we couldn't score, so they went w/ a ball control type O. No reason to pass and ring up more points when controlling the TOP is working so well. No matter how you slice it, giving up 150 yds rushing is a bad D performance.

You gotta get this FF stuff that yds don't matter out of your head. It's simply not correct. If you cannot stop a team, then you will give up points. All championship D's start w/ stopping the run. W/ not giving up tons of yards.

It's not that yards matter more than points, it's that it all matters. On this site, since we can't stop the run, people have instilled this weird idea in their minds that only points matter. Our D only gave up only 23 pts to SF. Why'd we lose then, if only points matter? Think about that.

It’s two fold here with Micha. No one can rush the passer like he can and no one can play LB like he can. When he rushes they switch to runs and we get gashed, and when he’s rushing they pass….
Micah is being Ware'd. Man, if only we'd been smart enough to sign Reader or Tomlinson or DJ Jones. Micah desperately needs some talent around him, and not JAGs or decent talent, he needs some game changers. If not, teams will simply take him out of the game, as our other threats just aren't good enough.

Bohanna was actually pretty effective clogging things up. I thought Gallimore and Hill also did okay against the double team blocks. But when they take on those double teams where are the LBs and safeties? I recorded the game and I intend to watch it again, but my first impressive is no one was getting off blocks and knifing through the clutter to tackle the ball carrier. It was one game so we will have to see where it goes from here. I'd like to to see the DEs play the run better than they did.
The DT's job is also to collapse the pocket. They did not.

On the other hand, defense did not lose us this game.

The O was definitely the biggest culprit, but giving up 150 yds rushing makes the D also liable. It was both.

I know the Cowboys gave up a lot of yards rushing last night. Was it scheme, ability, or something else?

The defense looked pretty decent against the run at times last night. Other times it looked like a sieve.

State your case as to the “why”. Thanks in advance.

The biggest issue I had was with Dorrance Armstrong. He repeatedly lost outside contain and I saw little from him rushing the passer either. I’m not seeing the reason why the Cowboys paid to keep him nor why he’s out there so much. Both seem undeserved.

Run defense started out ok, then as they got worn down, they got gashed as usual.
Players looked lost at times. Too many soft spots left uncovered.

I do expect them to improve, unless the offense can't stay on the field though, it will be a repeat each week, getting worn down.

They panicked when Gregory rejected them. So gave him a larger contract than he deserved. Sam Williams best get going and they best be right on his selection.
Fowler was brought in to be a stop gap and to rotate with Armstrong until Williams gets going.

Game 1, fail IMO all the way around on that.

They got trucked by a predominately JV line...all that matters...all is still the same.
Any decent DLine would've eaten up TB's traffic cones. We couldn't even touch Brady. Very sad.

Hey, you guys who were spewing how good our DLine is, any chance you watched the game?

I think when Tampa realized cowboys cant move the ball or score , they went full ball control and let Fournette go full speed and their Beefy inexperienced OL go and maul people , which they did. Our Def is fast but not powerful and heavy weights , they started wearing down, also our secondary except Kearse is not run tacklers .

TB had a sound game plan and leadership.
