Could we let go of Tyron Smith

I don't think there needs to be any rush to do anything. His salary for 2022 is paid.. I think they need to see what he looks like in the offseason in 2023 and make the call from there. Tyron has been such a good soldier and team player it would not shock me if he went to them and negotiated a team friendly deal with a paycut and incentives based on availability similar to what Sean Lee did. If you can retain him for 5-6 million a year and keep him as injury insurance you do that in a heartbeat. Or even start him knowing that if you need to slide Tyler out when Tyron goes down you will not suffer a huge dropoff. And for however many games you have them both that left side will be Newton/Tuinei level good.

I don't think he'll be back next year. Perhaps he takes a paycut and stays, but if Tyler Smith plays well at LT I can't see the Cowboys moving him back to guard. Terrance Steele will be a restricted free agent next year so there's probably some extension decisions there as well to allocate funds to.

I would certainly have Tyron back for less money, but at this point his contract is finally out weighing what he can contribute.

Smith has played a full 16 game season 4 times in 11 seasons. For reference Peters has played a full 16 game season 5 times in 17 seasons. As of week 2 Smith has missed 36 games in 11seasons during his career. For reference Terron Armstead has missed 48 in 9 seasons. He got a 5 yr 87m contract 53 guaranteed this off-season and oh, he’s never not once played a full 16 game season. You seem to have both a simplistic comprehension of how durable Smith has actually been and the value of the left tackle position!

If he refuses to accept a major reduction in his contract to reflect more of a swing tackle position, then you trade or release him and get what you can in terms of draft compensation and cap relief.

Smith has roughly $8M in dead money remaining after this season with a 2023 salary cap hit of $17.6M.....therefore a $9.6M savings pre June 1st and $13.6M post June 1st with a 2024 dead cap hit carry over of $4M.

Tyler has shown he isnt in over his head at LT.

If he moves to LG once Peters is ready, Tyler may afford the team the possibility of taking a chance on Tyron next year, because he can just slide over.

I'd like to see at least one season of those two on the left side of the line.

As it stands now, Tyron will be counting 17M+ toward the cap next year. So, he's probably done in Dallas since he has no more gauranteed money remaining. I can see us cutting him or maybe even trading him since he is technically under contract through 2024........ and if healthy, his contract is a huge bargain that might attract suitors. He is still only 31........ jason peters is still playing at 40 and he's had a ton of injury issues.

Tyron may not return to the field this year, or ever. But I’ll be honest. Come December, I would love to see Tyron and Tyler side by side for a few games.

Next off-season, I want to see Dallas sign or draft an above average C with power. Biadasz Doesn’t exactly suck, but the whole O-line performs better when you have an above average center who makes things happen.

I wouldn't mind moving him inside to left guard it'll be easier on his body and he still should be able to get some good push
