Payton's resume is identical to MM's. Both had hall of famer qb's & won one SB. Only difference? Payton has one year more in the NFL then MM. He's far from "functional" himself. Why some are so fixacted on this guy thnking he's a god as a HC is beyond comprehension.

This is a good point. And when low functioning teams meet high functioning teams, it’s usually clear which is which. There’s a reason the Cowboys have never beaten Tom Brady.

Hmm, I don’t think he’s talking about Dallas if there’s any truth to him wanting to come there.

Many teams have been more dysfunctional than the Cowboys. LV, DET, WAS, NYJ, CLE, MIA, HOU, JAX, ARI…
So weird that we just assume he’s talking about us lol. An extremely general quote not sure how some of y’all are so certain he’s sending subliminal shots at us.

Very narcissistic of this fanbase to think everything is about us, but when any player get mentioned as being interested we all say it’s just clickbait lol.

“There’s a handful of teams that aren’t, and those teams, regardless of what takes place, they can win on Sunday but they have trouble winning long term,” Payton said

You missed the key point
I was responding to the belief that Payton was referring to the Cowboys. A few posters expressed that opinion.

And, anyway, doesn't this apply to every team in the NFL? On any "given" Sunday?

Isn't he describing every team with a losing season unless they go 0-17?

McCarthy has said the same thing in code words last week. Everyone who watches Dallas knows who he's talking about or the organization. Been a clown show for the last 27 years. Lead by the biggest GM clown known to man:facepalm:

I think he meant more like we are able to win some in the regular season, but when it comes to games that really count (the playoffs) we are nothing.
Is that what he said? Winning "long term" simply means you come out of it eventually with a winning record.

These days, ten out of fourteen playoff teams don't make it past the divisional round every season. Are they all "non-functional"?

I’m still missing what makes Payton better than McCarthy. They have very similar résumés.

Both are offensive guys from a strong coaching tree that have had several winning seasons and some post season success.

They have both won one Super Bowl with a future Hall of Fame QB.

Both needed an almost fluky, crazy good defensive season to make it all the way.

Someone please point out what makes Sean Payton the savior. I’m not seeing his value over what’s already here.

If he turns down Jerry then I think he goes to the Chargers. Good situation for him

Unfortunately, you guys have no clue. But what’s new.

S. Payton was literally moments away from coaching this team, I think it was 2019 if I’m not mistaken. Regardless of which year it was. It was nearly a done deal. It’s well documented and reported. Educate yourselves.

so clearly, Dallas isn’t a team that Payton considers dysfunctional.

now I’m not suggesting this organization is functional. I’m telling you what Payton’s opinion is because he almost was the coach here. Thats not an option.

I completely agree. We just want to assume he's talking about the Cowboys because of fans here think we're not functional because of the Joneses.

Not functional? When you have the kind of defense the Cowboys have, you are about as functional as it can get.

When your team can beat the defending AFC champions with a backup QB, you are functional.
One win no mater who it’s against makes you functional.
There’s 27 years of evidence to prove we’re not

Wonder if he's talking about the Jones Show.

Sounds like us.
We have too much dysfunction in the front office for the product on the field to overcome.
Hence no NFCC in 27 years.
Hard to see why Payton would want to come here, unless Jerry showers him in money and gives Payton GM duties.

A message to a number of teams, Dallas included. Look at how the Saints are built, a combination of draft picks and quality free agent signings. It's not hard to see what he's saying.
they also had drew brees that went a long way toward him winning consistently wont be that way with jamis wintson coach looks really good when u have a qb like brees
