When did a reception become three steps?

That play late in the game where Giant caught it clearly in control, got two feet down, turned(a “football move”) and it clearly got knocked out.

They said he needed three steps. Huh?
Goodell loves Mara and hates Jerruh.I truly believe there’s anti-Cowboy sentiment w/ refs, whether it’s the refs themselves or just following orders.

Turning up field is a football move...yes.

Do you know how much confidence a player has to have in his ability to control the ball in order to take one arm off? Catching the ball with two hands and then taking one hand off means I totally possess this ball. So, taking one hand off the ball, means it's completion. Anybody with an ounce of common sense can see this and know that this is true.
So what the hell is wrong with the NFL and all the people they pay to come up with this type of BS? That was a fumble, plain and simple.

Changed a couple of years ago. In order to further try to clarify the "football" move aspect of the rule.

It was the correct call last night per the rules.
Still....it's a horrible rule. And the only reason it's in the books now...is because refs couldn't get 2 feet and possession correct...even with instant replay.

Must be better and a good enough team to beat your opponent and the refs...unless....you are GB, TB, Pittsburgh, last year the Rams, or the NYG.

It was not a fumble per the rules. You may not like the rule but they called it correctly last night. They changed the rule to clarify the football move aspect of the rule, where one has to get two feet in bounds and then either make a move with the football (like stick an arm out reaching for a first down) or take an additional step (the third step).
Would have been called a fumble if it was us.

NFL Definition: The NFL's simplified catch rules, which also apply to interceptions, require the player to do three things: Control the ball, get two feet or another body part down, and make a "football move," like a third step/reach reach for the line to gain; or the ability to perform such a move.

If that's the current rule then the refs made a huge blunder.

LOL.

Even the in studio referee, who by the way had sided with us on some other calls like the missed hold on Brown and the Williams late hit, clarified that the league put an emphasis in situations like that on the runner having to have made a third step. Shepard never made a third step.

I swear to god, you guys think there should never been any calls that go the other way in our games, even if it's the right call.
