This is the issue for defensive coordinators turning head coach…..it’s a offensive passing league and teams seem to want to find their next Sean McVey.

Everyone wants their OC and QB to grow together and the only way to ensure that is if you make your head coach a OC minded coach. I think it’s going to be tough for DCs to get that head coaching job. So they may be able to hold on to Quinn a little longer.

I like Quinn but feel like any defense with Micah Parsons on it is going to be good

Disagree

Not every DC will/would know how to best use him ... What if Rod Marinelli was still here ?

Any Defense ? ..What if Detroit or Houston had Parsons

After this year. Who do we get to replace him that can run a defense as well as he does?

having said that, I hope JJ throws everything at him to stay. I haven’t ever seen such a turn around for a defense in my life.

I think Joe Whitt Jr. will do a good job replacing Quinn.. Maybe not quite as good as Quinn.. but this defense is loaded.. I think I could have them no worse than middle of the pack.. and I played (and coached) offense ..

Right, the statement that Parsons would follow Quinn was concerning... the announcers talked about that during today's game. I would hope that Jerry would pay Dan Quinn enough money NOT to leave. There's no salary cap on coaches.

i’d like to hear proof/context of him saying it, because i have a hard time believing it. i’d imagine it was something more akin to meaning “id follow him to the ends of the earth” type thing than “id leave to whichever team he goes”

Agree to a point.. but I think DQ has done amazing things with our historically bad D.

We had the most takeaways last season.. and this season we have been, to this week, dominate in the sack department.

In 1.25 seasons he has taken the leagues worst defence and got them into the top 10... that is more than just Parsons.

In fact I think Micah has clearly been unwell the last two weeks.. but lots of other guys stepping up. I think we are controlling the tempo of the game better.. I think our D is working better on the field. When washington went up tempo to try and throw us off balance.. our D adjusted and ended up with a punt. Despite giving up some first downs today.. overall we stepped up when it mattered.

I think DQ is calling exceptional plays and has got this unit working really well together. It would have to be one of the 'cheapest' defensive units in the league and yet producing. That is a sign of great coaching imho.

Something I’m loving is the safety play being better than it has been in years. I’m sure Quinn plays a big role in that.

Granted, a guy like Micah being on defense helps tremendously, but I think Quinn has to be the best DC we’ve had since… who, Wade Phillips probably?

Edit - well I just realized Wade was never DC here. Who’s the last good DC we’ve had?

I'd probably have to go back to Mike Zimmer for the last time we had a DC this good.

Retaining Quinn should be paramount to any coaching decision. He is responsible for this tremendous improvement in this defensive unit. He was responsible for the Seahawks dominant defense during their Super Bowl runs and getting Atlanta to a SB as a HC. Surely, I’m not the only one to notice our defense had been woeful since Wade Phillips was our DC. As good as our offenses have been in the past, especially in Romo’s prime, it didn’t matter because our defenses were awful.
Either Kellen Moore finally figures it out after learning on the job or we bring in another more experienced offensive mind as OC. Quinn needs to be either the DC or Head Coach in Dallas. Don’t let this guy get away in order to keep McCarthy. I’m still mad about him bringing Nolan to be DC. Which was a total disaster.
