The quarterback dilemma, this Sunday

I personally think Dak should come back after the Philly game. He hasn’t thrown a football in almost a month; hasn’t worked with the receivers, so lost whatever timing was there. With that said, I think it would be poor decision to start Dak against the Rams; which probably means Coach Jones is considering it.

I wouldn't be surprised if Dak returns for the Lions game. I don't think he will be medically ready this week and I suspect the Cowboys will not want him to return against the Eagles.

I can see the Lions game for sure, maybe the Eagles but I doubt he plays this weekend. Remember MM just said he wanted him to have a full week of practice.

I think they tried to open it up this weekend by throwing longer passes. He got lucky twice on ints being called back by ticky tack calls. Well at least 1 was. Dak needs to come back 100% healthy. If he can grip the ball and throw well then he needs to start back with Rush lime game plan. Lean on the run and get the ball out quick on shorter passes.

Yet this is a similar formula being used for Rush in 2022 as was used for Dak in 2016....and he was given RoY honors and so many celebrated Dak's excellence.
I understand and it’s a fair point. But the situation in 2016 was completely different than now. Romo was going to miss most of the season and was clearly at the end of his career. It had become crystal clear that Romo’s career was over. He was no longer able to take a hit.

I’m not in any way knocking Rush or what he’s done. And I’m not saying Dak is Roger Staubach. But Cooper Rush is clearly a backup QB who is playing well. If he has to play more than a few games, it’s going to be exponentially harder for him to play as well because DCs will have a book on him.

Rush’s best qualities are his ability to play within himself, and his ability to stay mentally sharp. He’s cerebral but he’s not physically gifted. It will be harder and harder for him to play like he has. Dak needs to return when his hand is fully healed and not any time sooner.

Dak isn't practicing all week as MM stated it was a prerequisite so that will make it an easy choice...unless there is a magical change in his hand today were moving him till at least philly

All true.

The glaring problem though is Dak's lack of cerebralness (cerebralicity? cerebralism?.... you know what I mean), when it comes to playing QB. It's a pretty important factor.

Cooper Rush wins, Dak Prescott puts up stats.Rush might be very limited but he is more efficient and cost almost nothing.
Now after so many years Dak wants to simplify the game.... that is an admission of being just an average QB
paying him this much money to play with a very basic simplified system is like asking Patrick Mahomes to play like Carson Wentz.

Fair to say Dak needs to play more like Rush when he returns? By that I mean learn to see the field better, play with confidence while playing within himself and allow the defense and rushing game to guide the team with occasional play action passes and high percentage throws.

You are a very odd duck for sure. Just because you may be emotionally invested in Dak and the team does not mean others are just because you project your own issues onto them.
I'm odd? Hey, I support the team no matter what.

If you're not happy, why watch them...and then come and complain? Just stop watching them if you're no longer happy with the team and organization. It would be healthier for you.

I think when Dak comes back he won’t be 100%.. They need to use the same formula for a few games before they open it up. Heck if it works good then leave it dialed back. It’s what Dak does really well. And the threat of having a mobile QB again will be a asset. Daks ankle and calf should be healed as much as it is going to. If his hand comes back really well then this break could be a benefit later in the season. I hope Peters is getting in better game shape. Leave him in and rotate McGovern in and out to give Peters a breather. And if Peters is healthy at the end of the season and wants to play backup next season on a cheap contract then do it.

To be honest the right way to handle this is like McCarthy said. If Dak practices all week with no setbacks than he is ready to go back in. He hasn't even been cleared by the doctors. Most people when they have a fracture or broken bone it takes 6 weeks to heal. Last thing anyone wants is Dak to break the same thumb again and maybe its a bad break and it ruins him permanently.

So you have made yourself the high ruler of this group wherein you may tell people to leave simply because they express their opinions about the players and team as they see fit? It's called freedom of speech and should be embraced and not denounced.

How so? The intent of the team (regardless of QB) and endorsed by the majority of the fans is to rely on the defense & being able to run the ball. QB to help keep drives alive and take selective shots downfield.

So, each QB is going to be asked to do the same thing. The question is who can be most effective.

I'm not telling. I'm suggesting. It's up to you if you want to be healthier or not. By all means, be miserable if that's how you want to be, but don't expect for everyone else to follow suit.

I’ll start with a Cooper Rush. If he plays and wins this game. A little less than 50% of the fans will want him to continue playing the rest of the season. If he loses, 50% of the fans will say we told you so it’s been the defense.

Dak Prescott. If he starts and wins. 50% of the fans will say it’s because of the defense. If he loses now is the big dilemma. I believe more than 50% of the fans will say well maybe we should’ve kept Cooper Rush.

personally, I think Prescott is the better of the two quarterbacks overall. But I just want to win I don’t really care who is behind center. It makes no difference if we win by one point or 21 points. It’s about the game plan and the team. Go cowboys beat the Rams Sunday
No dilemma. Dak won't be cleared to play.

No QB controversy this week at all. Rush is starting this week, and Dak will be back once he is cleared and can practice a full week. Now if Rush comes out this week and hangs 30+ points 300+ yards and 3+ TDs against the Rams don't be surprised to see Dak's return get drawn out a bit. He does it again the following week against the Eagles, then we have a legitimate QB controversy.
