Video: 20 years ago today Emmitt Smith became all-time leading rusher

I'll always remember where I was and what I was doing when it happened. At the time, I was 22, almost 23 and working as a server at Red Lobster. The game wasn't shown in my area that day, and I was at work. In between waiting my tables I kept checking the TV for updates, and then right as the after-church crowd started dwindling and I got a little break, the bartender called me over to the bar to tell me Emmitt had broken the record, and then a couple minutes later, I saw a clip of the record-breaking run.

Some will not agree but in my view Emmitt was the best all around RB in the game. I do thing Barry Sanders was the best pure runner but Emmitt produced in every facet of the position Running, blocking, receiving and short yardage. The man did everything you want out of the RB spot

I always called Barry Sanders the best runner and Emmitt Smith was the best running back.

A record that will live on for a very, very long time if not forever. Emmitt the man....22 BTW, watching this also made me miss Troy.

All of the "this guy will break Emmitt's records" guys have faded into the sunset - Curtis Martin (whom even Emmitt thought would catch him), Tomlinson, Gore. There's nobody left besides maybe Henry, but some of his yearly totals drag down his good years.

Me neither until I saw Emmitt son playing at Stanford. lol

Just read he had a "significant" injury that caused him to miss the rest of the 2022 season. He was poised to have a great season as a junior. Emmitt Smith IV....Similar size and weight and same running style..great HS career. Who knows, maybe he goes into the next draft, falls due to injury and is picked by guess who? LOL....would be hard for JJ to resist.
