Here's the thing. Jerry wants to win as long as it is on his terms with him being the GM. So one could argue that if he really wanted to win a SB, he'd recognize the reality that for two decades, under his watch (and his son's) as GM, the team has won a grand total of 3 playoff games. That's a pretty sad run.

No other team would keep a GM employed for that long with that kind of track record. So while he "may" want to win, he wants to do it on his terms. In that sense, one could argue if he's not willing to do whatever it takes to win (and in this situation it would be him admitting his flaws and bringing in a real football mind), then does he really want to win?

To me, I think he'd love to win a SB. But he struggles with accepting his own faults and the idea that if he did hire a GM and they won, he'd want the credit for building the team, not the GM.
Yea, he only wants to win his way receiving credit.

I guess everyone forgets that’s why he parted ways after winning back to back championships is he wasn’t receiving his due with Jimmy and resented him being the face of his franchise.

That’s basically what their blow out was all about. He couldn't stand Jimmy was getting all the credit. It wasn’t enough just getting credit for hiring Jimmy. He wanted to be considered a football guy too.

Yep. To build a bit on my post above, I have little doubt that one reason Jimmy still isn't in the ring of honor is because it chaps Jerry's *** that many Cowboys fans look at Jimmy as the brains behind the early 90s SB teams. Jerry wants those accolades and in his twisted mind, putting Jimmy in earlier would be almost like Jerry admitting that Jimmy was the reason they won those SBs, not Jerry.

He loves winning but it has to be his way and his credit.
No one wants to win more than Jethro. But not enough to get the hell out of the way.

But we have fans who thinks he’s doing just fine. Cause we occasionally have a division winner.

Hopefully these are just a few Homers who defend everything under the Star?

To me it's always been a pretty simply formula.

If Jerry was willing to do whatever it took to get this franchise another SB, he would have replaced himself as GM years ago. There isn't a GM that would be employed for two decades by the same team with the results we have had.

I think Jerry believes the only way a SB matters to this franchise and to him is if he's the one who was heavily involved in building the team. There is no other option for him.

who cares what fans think... you, me, any of us. What we think means jack squat. Jerry Owns the team and he is going to own the team until you or he dies, whichever comes first. he isnt going to care 1 bit what we think and nor should he. Anyone that has ever been in charge of anything should know that they have to make decisions and you cant do that trying to please everyone.

First off, I am as critical of the owner and his son as anyone because I just flat do not like them but some of the criticism thrown their way is overdone.

He is not the worst GM, by far, in the NFL, either now or as long as he's been doing it. The 26 years of wandering in the wilderness makes him an easy target.
 A reasonable person would have realized the absurdity of their post after typing that sentence and started over or just deleted the whole thing and gone about their day.

I'd argue that Jerry thinks he's the best chance he has of winning, and that he doesn't think anyone else he could hire would do a better job than he does. So yes, he wants to win on his own terms, but he also thinks that's the most likely scenario.

I'm not reading the post, just gonna be the first to post 27 years... ;)

Be happy that you are a Cowboys fans instead of Chiefs fan as it took them 50 years to win another Superbowl. They last won it in 2020 and before that 1970.

I don't get commemorating year to year of no absolute Cowboys success. As a reminder? Let's obsess about the present, not the past.

I see blame for Elliott's contract and for Schultz's but is the blame for Schultz's balanced by praise for picking Ferguson and Hendershot for better options in this off season?

The blame for Prescott's is overblown because the crime was not giving themselves any options but the draft and what would a trade up in picks cost and was that worth the risk? They did what they had to do and the criticism for not doing the deal earlier ignores the fact they tried to do that. Most likely at the value they placed on him and not what the market dictated.

So, they sit at 6-2, with a backup QB steering most of those but where is the credit for Cooper Rush?

Here is what I am thinking is happening to too many of you. You are letting the past throw shade on your sunshine of this season. You just can't let it go.

Let those 26 years go and relish this season that is right now. They have the best defense in the last 27 years and a run game they seem content to lean on. This is a good team.

Yes, they could lose in the wild card round and keep that string going but why worry about that now? That's 10 games away and a lot is going to happen between then and now. So, forget then and embrace now.

Don't you really want to be happy being a fan? Or have we become happy blaming the FO for everything to the point that we do not see all of the positive moves they've made? Are we too happy being critical?

Believe me, it is not fun for me to give them credit but there is not any analyst that would have given them a chance at 6-2 when Prescott went down. I know, I heard them all.

So far in the 2022 season, this FO has done a great job and better than anyone here would have predicted. We are so busy criticizing them, the good things slip by us. And there are some really good things.
They do say the past is the best prediction for future performance. Now they did have a giant Gold nugget fall into their lap with Parsons because we all know how bad they wanted a corner. Jerry gets 0 credit for that. Dak would never have been taken if Jerry had closed the deal for Osweiler. Dak was a great story until he got over paid. Who's fault is that? I never liked the Cooper trade. There was a guy named Jefferson on the draft board when CD Lamb was drafted.

IM talking about to jerry... he doesnt give a damn what we think.
Of course he does . He needs to continue stringing us along. It’s why he addresses all of these issues . Regardless whether or not we like his answer.

He doesn’t care that we don’t like him staying as GM and he presents his case why he’s not stepping down or changing .

But he can’t afford for all of us to become apathetic or walk away which he’s addressed publicly. It’s why he stays front and center promoting and hyping his product attempting to deliver an interesting and relative product he can sell.

But that’s fairly preposterous logic on his part when he has a 20 year run as the GM and produced 3 playoff wins TOTAL. It’s one of the most inept playoff runs over a twenty year period in NFL history. It’s that pathetic.

If he had employed GMs over the last 20 years and these were the results he’d have fired them.

Right and we must remember he even stated a few years ago he’d of fired a GM with his record this era.

Couch Coach is right. Jethro is not the worse GM in the NFL. And that’s on the rest of the league and illustrates how tough it is to build a contender. The fact these other franchises operate a normal organization and can’t field a better team than Jethro speaks volumes to my first point.

But at least these other franchises have a better opportunity to finally get it right. Which is illustrated with 27 of 32 teams reaching a Super Bowl since we last did in 1996. And 13 of 16 NFC teams reaching a NFC Championship game .

This is why Jethro is and was so loyal to the 2 Franchise QB’s who fell into his lap this era with Romo and Prescott as they helped him remain with an interesting and relative product he could build around and hype and promote . It’s been enough to engage the fanbase.

It’s also why he probably likes hanging on to his Star players probably longer than others. They enable him to help hold up this continuing interest and popularity. Plus he knows he doesn’t have the keen eye in finding their replacement.

One of our most insightful fans on this board once said “ He runs Cowboys Football thru the eyes of a fan” which I think is one of the best descriptions I’ve ever heard . And probably why there are so many fans who like and support him. He’s a fans fan like owner.

He no doubt loves the game . He’s always wanted to be a football guy and why he tried to buy the Chargers in the 1960’s still in his 20’s almost right out of Arkansas before he got into the oil business. But he wanted to be in a position where he couldn’t be held as directly accountable as a HC.

I’ve often said he could have been one of the greatest owners in NFL history If he didn’t have to run football operations as a GM and insist on being the face of the franchise usually held for the HC. It’s why he was so fumed over Jimmy when he received all of the credit which fans looked to after winning.

Fact is Jethro was an important part of that success as he not only hired Jimmy but provided him a green light to every move and decision he wanted and needed. But that wasn’t enough to just be the owner and revel in the success his HC provided.

This had to be his baby. And this is when I turned on him as I believe he turned on us . He said from Day 1 he would do everything within his power to win. He did initially and he hasn’t since Jimmy and him parted ways because he has refused to hire the best front office and coaching staffs available since .

His meddling and insistence to be everything Cowboys has been our greatest obstacle to overcome and IMO prevented this franchise from more success with the toxic culture under his reign. I’ve maintained throughout that the best scenario to overcome him would be talent. And with Parsons falling into our lap it presents more hope with the potential defense we’ve all known we needed.

We shall see if it’s enough to finally get the monkey off our backs this era . I certainly have a little more hope as well as Coach does . But I also know that this overwhelming stigma that Jethro has carried over this franchise won’t be easy to shed but we also knew at some point he might get lucky.

LOL. Yep. He's basically saying he knows he hasn't been good enough, he's the reason for the failures over the years but he doesn't care because he's arrogant enough to think it will work out eventually for him.
