Eagles own Saints 1st rd pick

...or the Eagles GM can realize how out of control the QB contracts are and instead of paying Hurts (who enters the last year of his contract next season) what would be an average of near $40M/year he could trade Hurts to another team for high draft picks and go for a rookie QB in 2023, thereby buying 5 years of low salary QB wherein they can build up the entire team.

Hurts, while playing well so far, is not an elite QB and a rookie QB can come in and within a season or two be at Hurts' level of play.

Hurts is another needs to be carried QB.
No way Howie gives him a major deal.
Your above plan if they hit on the rook QB could give them numerous SB appearances in the near future as the NFC is on a downslide.

You don't go out and get all of the talent that Roseman has gotten and then start over with a rookie QB after Hurts has gone 8-0. They are absolutely going to resign him unless the wheels fall off in an almost unprecedented way this season. Letting a QB walk who has led his team to an 8-0 start just isn't how the NFL works despite what all of the armchair GM's try and say about Dak's contract. The only reason you guys are touting this idea so hard is so you can have some sort of "told ya so" moment that you think will validate your anti-Dak narratives. When you have a good QB you sign them, you don't roll the dice on a pick. There have been far more first round busts (that the Eagles are all too familiar with) than there have been first round successes in the past decade at QB.

Sorry but where did I mention Dak? This was about Hurts and the Eagles having the Saints 1st round pick but hey, whatever floats your boat.

IDK if that is true or not to be honest. On one hand Hurts is undefeated this year, and I think Philly would be crazy to mess with that. On the other Hurts doesnt feel like a complete QB that I would pay 45+ MM per year to either. Philly may be in a position where they have to keep him just because his style fits that offense so perfectly though too. It's a very interesting situation that I think I would wait and see how the rest of the season plays out before making a decision on.

You're absolutely correct that there are a ton of QB busts coming out of school. With that said though you have just as many situations of QBs getting paid and not producing (Wentz/Goff...possibly now a Kyler Murray?).

Let's see if the Eagles continue to win anywhere near the current pace.

you mean the front office that has this team at 6-2 and has been one of the best drafting teams in the past few years while still finding a good ammount of strong value FA's to fill in the gaps.

that front office?
I was 19 our last Super Bowl. I figured that out by subtracting 27 from my current age. This FO has earned every bit of skepticism and criticism that they get until they deliver.

While rookie QB's can be hit or miss, there are possibly 5 QB's expected to be drafted in the 1st round next year and do not be surprised if Philly looks at one of them.

i dunno man, hurts has looked pretty good so far...granted they have a fantastic line and some really good weapons but he looks like as long as they have the right scheme and he keeps developing that he could be for real

Howie is NOT Jerry.....The team first and talent at the job applies not ineptness and his ego like our GM.

fine, then they also deserve not to be called amature when they do deliver a team like they have both last year and this year. Criticism is fine, but its not fair to only judge on negative and not see the fantastic moves that the FO has been making to get this team to one of the best in the nfl.

He has looked great running that RPO this year. Don't think he'll ever be a very good pocket passer, which he will have to eventually become if he doesn't want to get killed.

yeah, he has, just have to wonder if anyone is going to figure out how to stop it effectivly. Also, very curious when he has some weakness in his line or his wr's how he responds.

Hurts will implode probably in the playoffs as his running game will take him so far.
I know the dreamers here refuse to acknowledge the cap but it will be our # 1 problem area esp with new contracts that will be expected after 2023.
GM Jerry as 27 years of hunger don't come easy!

The Patriots, and their 20 year dominance over a completely incompetent division along with a fist full of rings, laugh at your strategy.
Patriots are the exception but youre point is well taken.I dont fear the eagles

Meanwhile we're over here playing the long game. The 26 year process. I do think going back the past few years I do think the FO has done a much better job of building through the draft. Credit where it's due and all that. Hard to not be a little jealous though.

Oh yeah. We don’t have to live in a bubble.

The Cowboys certainly have done a great job of drafting and they deserve credit for that. But at the same time, teams like the Rams and Eagles build, rebuild and win championships while we ‘stay competitive’ for the past 26 years.

So do the 90s Niners who had perpetual home field advantage in the playoffs because of their easy schedule. It's too bad our front office never took full advantage of the NFC East suckiness.

They have improved dramatically in the past several years with their drafting. I will definitely give them that. Until they start delivering on the hype they constantly sell though, they will continue to get dragged by a frustrated fanbase.

I hope they have the no. 1 overall and pick a QB.

Im praying they aren't in striking distance of Alabama DE Will Anderson. If not they'll trade back with a QB starved team and land multiple 1sts. So many teams have poor records the Saints could wind up netting the Eagles a pick somewhere between 12-15. That's not to devastating

100% get that and i am frustrated too, especially since i don't feel i can enjoy the regular season as much because unless they win a divisional game it feels like the same thing every year.

It is nice to see how well positioned the team is though, especially on defense, and that we haven't mortgaged the future. There will be some contract creativity that has to be done for sure but with the cap going up and the way that they have managed it i am hopeful to see them keep the nucleus together.

all well and good, but its about results, about playoffs wins, sadly our last good run was 2018 season where we shoulda beat the saints and have another possible run for a sb, the "dream team" completely collapsed as well, years ago.
