Lambeau Field has been a House of Horrors for America’s Team, with the Cowboys losing nine of 11 visits to the Green Bay Packers’ fabled stadium. From the infamous Ice Bowl in 1967, to the 45-7 lackluster loss that got Wade Phillips fired in mid-season in 2010, to Dez Bryant’s controversial catch-non-catch in the 2015 playoff loss, the “frozen tundra” has generally been inhospitable to the Cowboys.

Heading to eastern Wisconsin in November can always be a dicey - icy? - proposition, but the Cowboys and coach McCarthy just might be catching the Packers at a cozy time.

The forecast Sunday calls for temperatures in the mid-30s with clear skies. The outlook for the struggling Packers couldn’t be more inviting.

McCarthy, who coached the Packers to a Super Bowl championship during his 13-year career, won’t recognize his former team when returns to Green Bay as an opposing coach for the time since he was fired in 2018.

I attended one of those losses in 1989 with the Cowboys Travel Club which Jethro begun in his inaugural season. It was in mid to late October and weather was mild for them in the 40’s - 50’s.

I had traveled with the team initially to New Orleans in JJ’s debut game and stayed at same hotel able to greet the players and coaches in their arrival. We also had breakfast with one of the asst coaches .

Such a wonderful Travel Club . Did several times thru the 90’s. But this particular trip stands out as my favorite . Not only was it my first encounter with our current owner as we were in the gift shop in line together but my most enjoyable trip.

If you ever travel or attend any road venue Green Bay is the place to go. The history in Title Town USA is amazing. Packers have their own Hall of Fame museum. And the Cowboys are well represented.

Green Bay is by far the smallest city of all NFL sites. And I’ve never been more warmly greeted by the citizens but also the fans . Classy classy fans and people. No other venue, city or fans measure up .

However - the Cowboys' last win over the Packers was at Lambeau 6 seasons ago (Oct 2016) - and it is the only Dallas victory in the past nine games home or away against Green Bay.

I believe I read that Rodgers is 7-3 against us. That includes of course games here.

When I attended Lambeau in that October game I only brought a light jacket. I didn’t think about how much colder it would be in Green Bay.

40 degree forecast seemed very cold for a thin Texas blooded fan. So I went out and purchased a leather bomber jacket from Milwaukee based Wilson’s Leathers.

It was about $350. I still have it. It was so heavy I couldn’t pack in my suitcase on way home on flight. So I had to carry it .But it kept me extremely warm at the game . I would have froze without it.

I remember that, for reasons I no longer recall, the Cowboys and Packers played twice during the regular season in that season (1989), both Cowboys losses. Anybody remember why that happened?

I had forgotten about that. I’ll see if I can find out.

I was raised in Wisconsin and have been invited to several games at Lambeau by friends trying to convert me to being a Packer fan. I declined every invitation. I did however make a stop in one of their parking lots on a family trip to Door County. My son and I exited car, pee'd on the pavement and then continued on our trip.

Here you go;

Both the Packers and Cowboys finished last in 1988 in each of the NFC's two five-team divisions, and so they played twice in '89. Also, Tampa and Dallas finished last in those divisions in '89 and played each other two times in 1990.

Apparently uneven divisional teams in conference created the need for some teams playing a non divisional team twice. When the realignment came in early 90’s this was resolved .

Great question !!!!

The Cowboys dismal history at Lambeau and the fact the Packers have one of the top five all-time greatest QBs that has beaten the Cowboys a number of times is why you don’t get overconfident about this game.

Screwed by the Refs we should have won in 2016. Not this time we are going to crush them.

It is kind of surprising how few times Dallas has played at Lambeau Field. Weird scheduling anomalies in the past along with there being a time when Green Bay played half their home games in Milwaukee. Makes that match up special. More special if the Cowboys win.

Yea, wonder why they no longer play any home games in Milwaukee?

Wasn't the game in 1989 at Milwaukee Fulton County stadium? Or was that some other time.
