It’s a mistake to pay any running back big money on a second contract. It never works out.

Let’s finally learn our lesson with Zeke’s contract and be done with it.

Zeke once looked like one of the best weapons in the NFL too
Zeke never had the big play ability pollard does and I’m a Zeke fan
Pollard is a game breaking player when you get him the ball in space

We gain 11 mill by releasing him. If we don’t, another 4 years kicks in. Zeke is 100% gone.

Over the cap states this, where did you get your numbers from?

Zeke's paid 16.7 next year
If he's cut you save 4.8
11.8 becomes dead money against your cap

Can't see him being cut in 2023 to save 5 million

2024 his cap number is 14.3
cut 8.2 saved but 6.2 dead money
I think this year would make more sense to cut him

What would you consider big money?
I think he gets in the 10 mil a year range on the market
I’d move on from Zeke and extend pollard

I read that if he is cut after a later date we save 11 million this year.

People wanting Jerry to pay him, are the same ppl in this board within 2 years that will be belly aching about how silly Jerry was to pay a RB, and that you never thought it was a good idea etc etc once Pollard starts slowing down

This is his only chance at a big payday in his life. He will sign a 3 or 4 year deal with someone else.

You need to keep Pollard if possible. The bigger sin is waiting 4 years to utilize his talents.

I'm thinking Zeke might agree to a pay cut to stay here.

Lets hope so, I would like to see him stay a Cowboy, but not at 15 Million a year.
Me too, he's been a good Cowboy. Love how he blocks so well and no one can question his toughness, as he plays through pain and injury very well. If he restructures his deal, that will allow for more off-season additions that make the team better. Guess we will find out whats most important to him then.

This.. cut Zeke (hopefully he reworks his deal/pay cut)or whatever and franchise pollard

This. Go to Zeke and rework his contract. Then franchise Pollard.

This tandem, along with the underrated OL is lethal. As long as Kellen Moore pulls his head out and understands a balance offensive attack, featuring the running game, and the pass as a counterpoint.

Zeke was never as versatile as Pollard on a consistent basis, especially as a downfield receiver.

Elliott had 77 receptions in 2018 on top of leading the NFL in rushing that season. He had long receptions of 73 and 82 yards his first few seasons.

Now I am not insinuating that he is there right now, nor that Pollard isn't better as a downfield receiver. But anyone who says Zeke was "never" versatile honestly wasn't paying attention, or just wants to downplay how good he really was for a few seasons.

Should the Jones' be talking about a contract with him right now? I don't want him to hit the open market.
NO most teams in the middle of season and playoff battle, do not talk contracts with players.. they have plenty of time between February and March when the official new season stars for offseason moves to has out a deal.. I believe they need to figure out either cutting Zeke and what the dead cap is there or talking him into major pay cut to stay and use that extra cap money for pollard. of you could keep both next year for the same cap hit as this year, that good for the cowboys IMHO

Im not sure his worth but i wasn't sold on him as Full time back and big snap buy but the last 3 weeks hes shown more of a complete back then i saw starting the year. hes always been explosive but now hes showing he could be a featured back.

Im sold now.

However, to all fans that say you should never give back a 2nd contract that a lot of money, that what's been said , RBs are dime dozen remember, you said NEVER overpay a Back. Malik Davis and draft pick could replace both our backs for cheap next year,,

so be consistent, you pick on Zekes deal said NO RB should have that large of a deal. So again, don't say Jerry should keep him at all costs, that would be hypocritical.

Wow Zeke isn't a free agent until 2027? Has to be a way out of that.

Franchise tag Pollard. Release Schultz. Done.

Zeke helps, so keep him even at that rate.
This, all we have to do is franchise him. We can release Schultz and draft another TE and we would be fine.

I’d consider $10 million a year to be big money. And more than a team can afford.

Pollard is an excellent player but if he is looking for big retirement money he needs to walk. Anyone who thinks Pollard is in a class with 2016 Zeke is dreaming. 2016 Zeke was one of the most dynamic and explosive players I have ever seen. He got paid, got fat, and that was the end of it. We should treat Pollard like we did Demarco Murray. Run him into the ground this year then let him walk. Draft someone new in round 3 or 4. Pick up a low cost free agent.
