CFZ It would be foolish to move Tyler Smith to Guard in 2023

Tyron's difference between salary and dead cap would be about 5M. You'll need that much to get a swing OT.
Money isn't that big an issue.

If Tyron can't play this year or wants to retire so be it but no reason again to decide that right now.
Where is that figure coming from? Should be closer to $10MM unless I’m looking at the wrong number?

I understand putting Tyron back there when he is healthy, and moving Tyler to LG for the balance of 2022. Thats our best line this season, and that gives us the best shot at a deep playoff run. However counting on Tyron past this season would be foolish. It would also be foolish to keep Tyler at G.

Ive heard some say Tyler's more suitable to play OG in the NFL. This is false, and a misunderstanding of him as a prospect. Smith's measurables and skill set scream OT. His length, knee bend and lateral agility and hip flexibility are all there to be a dominant pass protectors. Add to that his rare power and aggression and you have a player with the Trent Williams tool kit. Smith is an OG only of there is no other place to play him, or of he fails at OT. To me if you classify him as the later after this season, you need the exercise more patience.

His 2023 has been checkered, but also has shown alot of positives after coming into the NFL so raw and spending the offseason at OG. He has shown himself to be a self starter and has hooked up with the most renowed OL trainers out there in Duke Manyweather. With a full off season program at LT, I see him being a plus starter at LT in 2024. I think it will be time to move on from Tyron, and on to Tyler after 2022
Putting at guard is 100% the correct and obvious move. Total common sense.

however I fear he won’t be there long as Mr glass will go down again soon.

On what planet is money not an issue?

Tyron for 10 games is still a valuable asset. Between he and Jason Peters you could likely eke out another year of upper tier LT play before transitioning to Tyler full time. I agree that he's destined for LT and has the tools. I just don't see a rush to get there if it means wasting assets.

Ware was a cap casualty more than anything. Tyron’s contract is a steal for a starting left tackle

The problem is he can’t be counted on. He needs to be replaced. And since you have to account for him not being there you might as well just save money and get rid of him.

besides the fact tha

You fans don’t understand the concept of roster or cap management. Tyron is gone and he 100% should be.

just like Collins, Wilson, cooper, and Gregory.

After the season I would look at trading Tyron Smith, at his age and salary, you might get a decent draft pick for him, Leave Tyler Smith at left tackle moving forward...

If he can play it is. 13 starts over the last three years suggests otherwise though. You can sign a really strong G for the money you would save from cutting Tyron smith, and minimize the reliability factor due to injury.
Zack Martin makes more than Tyron.
You aren't getting a good OG in here for the minimal savings.
And its not like there are good OGs lying around waiting to hit free agency.
Connor Williams got 7M a year as a guy that was benched.

It's good that us fans have you to school us. (Even though it's evident that you haven't a clue what you're talking about.)

His weakness arent athletic in nature. They are refinement. That can be improved with coaching and training, which he has shown he is dedicated too. He doesnt any any physical limitations and that anywhere close to below NFL LT thresholds. Moving him to OG permanently would be a huge waste

It doesn’t have to be permanent. It can be short term while he continues to work on his technique.

If Tyron is healthy he’s a clear cut upgrade this year and needs to play to give us our best chance.

I don't see that happening. I think he retires a Cowboy. The question is when.

Tyron's reliability is problematic. Is he really worth having on the team if he's missing double digit games now? If he remains on the team, how do we know if he even plays a snap next season? We all appreciate and respect Tyron. I for one miss his elite play and reliability. Bringing him back causes too many moving parts this late in the season. Insert Tyron, shift Tyler to OG and take McGovern off the field. That's a lot going on to a unit that relies on continuity. WHEN they bring him back, I'm crossing my fingers in hopes of him finishing the season. It may be time to move on from him after this season.

Why is putting a potential Pro Bowl LT at G the correct and obvious move?

Keep in mind, Im not talking about this season

Well the Front office should make it clear after the season, If Tyron Smith wants to continue playing in the league, then it will have to be somewhere else...
