Read the first few explanations of contracts for Rodgers, Wilson, Carr, Murray, and Stafford, including earliest outs and dead money. Love Dak or hate him, love Jerry or hate him, I think you’ll appreciate just how good Dak’s contract is compared to other QBs. Most of those teams have no options at all and are stuck with QBs, no matter how bad things get. The Cowboys are likely to extend Dak soon because they believe in him, but his contract is very team friendly and has a really easy out.

Unrelated side-note, I was surprised by former QB Tim Hasselbeck’s list of NFC QB’s he trusts most to win an NFC playoff game. He had Dak at number 2.

Daks deal is not bad..zeke earned his money and most likely gone but no way should they be getting so much hate from our fans over money..ugh

We used Dak for 5 years and posters are upset about 2 years of cap crunch from a deserved contract at a position that teams pay premiums for busdrivers. Its a pathetic attitude.

Why is that surprising? Here are the current playoff QBs if the season ended today:

Dak Prescott
Taylor Heinicke - no explanation needed
Daniel Jones - no explanation needed
Kirk Cousins - plays small in big games
Jalen Hurts - unproven in playoffs
Tom Brady - stud in playoffs
Jimmy Garrapolo - defense carries that team

The only bonified/proven stud at QB in the playoffs is Brady. It's pretty easy to make an argument for Dak even if you don't like him.

Dak Prescott, Dallas Cowboys

Here's an interesting one! Prescott is signed through 2024, and his 2023 salary of $31 million is fully guaranteed. His 2024 salary of $29 million is not guaranteed, nor is his 2024 roster bonus of $5 million (which comes with a March 2024 deadline). Dak is sure to be the Cowboys' starter for at least one more year after this one and probably much longer, as they'll likely look to extend him this offseason or next. But if things were to go wrong, the 2024 season is when the Cowboys would have a relatively easy out.

Moving on from Dak in the 2024 offseason would cost them no cash, and about $40 million in dead money cap charges for 2024. But Dak's only 29, and they love him there, so things would have to go very wrong for any of this to matter. Just pointing out that this extension, which feels so recent, was a short-term deal designed to get him to the market again sooner, or prompt a decision by Dallas on an extension in the next year or two.

WOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER IF IT WERE SIGNED EARLIER

I will never be able to appreciate Dak's contract because I do not believe his skills and talent are worth it.

The less he does the better we are and he can't consistently commit to that play style.
True. The team were 4-1 with a practice squad QB this season including beating the Bengals and Washington. His value to the team isn't as much as his contract.

LOL. I love how you post this. Yet completely ignored the thread where the team as a whole since Dak has been back in ranked first in pretty much every single offensive statistic. Gotta love it.

The NFL doesnt work the way you think it should. Thats the problem.

You would be laughed out of the league the first busdriver you let go because you were looking for Brady.

Yeah, if your team goes 4-1 without you you're not exactly the difference maker you're paid to be as far as I'm concerned.
Or. It means that the team is very talented especially on defense. Problem with that is. You cant say the team is very talented because Daks contract is supposed to prohibit the Cowboys from putting a talented team on the field. So in turn. You leave that part out and say Rush is why we won 4 games. Its very funny to see.

And I am still of the opinion Daks replacement needs to be drafted and put on the bench. This year. If we dont make noise in the playoffs.

Appreciate it from what the Joneses did then. If they sour on him, they can get out quickly with almost no dead money compared to others who would have 100 million in dead money.

There’s a difference between not being capable of something vs not having done it as of yet.

Dak and his Cowboys are not incapable of a deep playoff run, it just hasn’t happened yet. They have as good a shot as anyone in the NFC this year.

Bigger the deal the shorter the Superbowl window of this loaded roster outside of the QB position.

I’d disagree. I think if you have an above average QB you go all in while you can and that is your window. It won’t be easy - but they can get creative with contracts to keep a competitive roster.

Our QB play jumped to 3rd in the NFL in EPA / play when Dak returned and we almost upped our PPG by 2 TDs.
