Twitter: What was Kellen thinking on 3rd & 10?

Getting a first down is the most important thing. If getting a first down wasnt important then just run the ball.
Roy I think the issue here is not that he called a pass play, it’s that the pass play he called was 3 verticals. At this point in the game running clock and making them spend their last time out was just as important as getting a first. Selling out for a deep play without regard for running clock is a bad decision.

I’m all with passing the ball if we are running a high percentage pass play. Yes they are 1 on 1, but a 1 on 1 deep shot is as low percentage of a single coverage play as possible. Why not run something that’s easier to complete? You’re asking your QB and WR’s to make a play 30-40 yards downfield on the most crucial offensive play of the game and that’s a big ask.

A crosser/slant route combo with one deep option makes sense. But to force your QB to throw deep there is inexcusable. To not even give an option for a simple completion or check down is gross mismanagement.

Again, just talking this one play. I think Moore was solid outside of that.

What is this??????? We chose THIS over making them use their timeout? This is on Kellen and McCarthy.

Gallup has no trust on his repaired knee , his jumping is almost non existent, he could have had a easy TD if he jumped couple of inches more.

Just terrible play design.

If we going to go for it why not design a play that was a high percentage throw. Look at those routes. Ceedee had 3 people on him lol. And we had quick pressure that play. Just terrible. Just run the ball and play the game. Jags have to be sending Kellen Moore and McCarthy a christmas card with that stupid decision to run that play.

So what everyone complaining about the call is really saying is that the OC and HC should not trust their 40 million dollar QB to make the right decision. It’s simple really. We are going to run this play. If we catch them sleeping on the run play and someone uncovers take the shot and win the game. If not eat the ball and get what you can or simply fall down. Whatever you do do not throw a 50/50 ball in that situation. Guess what our QB did.

Yeah terrible call. You HAVE to run it there and take their last TO. It’s ballsy and everyone applauds it if it works but single call changed the outcome of the game from a w to an L
Exactly, a run play - takes their TO away as well as burns up a few more seconds or how ever long the actual play took. Take that TO and few seconds away at the very end, they don't get to kick that FG - no OT, just another close call W

If you're going to throw it, I'll say it again that you run a screen and see where that gets you. It slows the pass rush and gives you a safe throw.

You can win with dumb players. Just take them off the field. But if you have dumb coaches? What can you do? Welcome to Dallas Cowboy Land. McCarthy and Moore can try to spin it any way they like. But it was dumb what they did in any phase of football. High school to pro. You keep the ball in play. Make them burn their last time-out.

I'll also throw in the 3rd and 4 in OT. Thought they could have thrown in a run. Even if they don't get a first down maybe it's 4th and short and have many options.

Big Mac even tried to justify it by saying you have two choices there:

Be aggressive and go win the game or be conservative and try to run out the clock, which is a false dichotomy.

You are winning the game at that point and by running out the clock and making them burn their last TO you are increasing your chances of securing that win.

Terrible decision by all of them, just shows how their false bravado brings on costly mistakes again.

Kinda like the "Dez caught it" game. It was 4th and 4 and Romo made that throw like he was wearing a red jersey in Oxnard. Dumb team culture continues.
Romosexuals don't like to remember that Beas was wide open for the 1st to keep the drive going and burn the clock not allowing Rodgers a last shot. But then and today their chant is the same: Is the defense fault.

I agree. We have a great chance of winning this game if we run the ball 3 times and punt.

It was MCCarthy’s decision to pass the ball. Really really dumb decision!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The other alternative is to play aggressive, maybe throw on first down when the defense is not expecting it. Play your offense, move the ball, get first downs. One first down probably wins the game.

But yeah... 2 runs against a stacked run defense and then a stupid pass is bad decision making. Either play for first downs or run the clock out.

What was he thinking?????
"I call this play. I'd be considered a genius" Deep throw to the sidelines it is.

As of a month ago (I can't find updated stats), our WR group ranked dead last in separation in the entire NFL. Guys like Lamb are too good for that. That's 100% on play design.
Correct!

Yet, it's lazy for Dak haters to blame this on Dak instead of the one responsible for such terrible pass route designs (Kellen Moore). Now one can see the dilemma for our QB and passing attack: terrible route designs do not help our receivers get open at all. No excuse for being dead last in separation in the entire NFL.
