Cowboys will evaluate kicker position, ahead of 49er game

I remember when Peyton Manning was furious when the colts kicker (later became a Cowboy) cost them a playoff game years ago. It makes me sick to think this franchise would even risk losing a close game because they didn’t do their due diligence to bring one in. That‘s very “Jones-like”.

really, so a cold kicker would be a better risk than the one that played GREAT all season and had a small bad stretch.. the one he made late says maybe that and practice will suffice. making a change now would be an overreaction to the like of some fans saying Dak should have been sat down for Rush for this Playoff game after the Washington game and Dak made a similar reference to that when asked about maher..

I say let the coaches get that figured out in practice put the entire operations team ie snapper, holder, kicker through extra practice and see what might be going on after breaking down the film to see if ball and lace placement have been consistent etc,

Since he's lousy close, but great from far away, just commit about 3 or 4 delay of game penalties before every extra point.

You can’t go forward with a kicker who is one-for-six on his last string of PATs. A high-schooler could outperform these kinds of results. Any idiot should realize there is some underlying issue that a responsible professional football franchise can’t afford to continue to risk.

If Maher is not out of there the Cowboys are not playing to win. I find THAT hard to believe.

Sounds like you have an issue.

Maher will be the Cowboys kicker Sunday against the 49ers.

Book it.
I'm not saying we should have moved on, but given the game was Monday night, there was a small window to get kickers in town to try out and see if you were comfortable with any of them.

That window probably involved having a few fly out yesterday, so we would have either heard about the tryouts or seen them by now

..I get what most of you are saying.
I can only respond, what a mess.

Everyone has valid points.

The team is in a tough spot. One one hand, Mahar has hit rock bottom and the decision makers have to wonder if he can immediately bounce back in a very high pressure situation in a road playoff game. On the other hand, if you bring in some guy off the street, what are you really getting? I guess it shouldn't be too hard to find someone to make XPs.
....adding to wound. Bringing in another kicker, would really mess with Maher's mental mojo. ..Just saying..;)..

The team is in a tough spot. There really is no easy answer. Ultimately they'll probably stick with Mahar and pray he can at least make the chip shots.

Could this be setting up for a story book finish Sunday night with Mahar making a 40+ yarder to win the game at the gun?

Why? It was 1 game....
You don't remember Vanderjagt we sign from the Colts? Was THE most accurate kicker....then ......

1 game? He started missing in Washington. This is now TWO games.
