At this point in the season you go with the guy you have. There are 31 other teams who have kickers that haven't taken anyone off the street. So unless our guy is rank #32 on that list and were going to replace him with #34 then go for it. I am not sure where he ranks amongst the other 31 though.

What the hell are the yips?

The extra points are concerning, but what I'm worried about are the field goals. I have zero confidence if he had to kick a 50 yard fg.

NOT a D*** chance. You know why, let me spell it out for you and the rest of you football geniuses. Not one Jimmy team carried more than one kicker in the active list. Stop with all this 4th grade stuff about changing kickers mid game. This week, that might be a possibility, yesterday, there was zero chance.
Maybe not during yesterday’s game as you carry one K on the roster but certainly would have been cut following the game. Jimmy was known to make certain positions expendable including kickers. I remember him cutting Richards, the running back after he fumbled the ball multiple times.

If your kicker gets injured during the game, who kicks if you carry only one K on the roster? The punter I assume?

The 1993 roster had both Lin Elliot and Eddie Murray.

I'm sure the Jones Boys were getting texts from different agents representing unemployed kickers by the end of the third quarter. Shouldn't be any problem getting some of them into tryout.

My question is this ( yips) just for extra points or field goals too? If he has no issue with his FGs, I'd stay with him. Extra points are one thing but if your guy can't make FGs, you're in a lot deep ______

Just messing with ya dude.......LOL

Yips is a term for a sudden and unexplained loss of skills in experienced athletes caused by mental maladies. The disorder occurs when an infielder loses the ability to make a routine throw or a catcher struggles to throw the ball back to the pitcher.

The team is in a tough spot. One one hand, Mahar has hit rock bottom and the decision makers have to wonder if he can immediately bounce back in a very high pressure situation in a road playoff game. On the other hand, if you bring in some guy off the street, what are you really getting? I guess it shouldn't be too hard to find someone to make XPs.

bad night? if he didn't have like a zit on his foot that he didnt notice and just needs to pop it, fine I agree, but there has to be some logical reason he missed 4 in a row and then a reason why no one should worry about his confidence being shaken going forward. like yesterday, it is too late in a game. its not like you can put a backup in there and that is something no one ever carries in a game because it obviously would take up an extra roster spot we cannot afford on a backup kicker.
It has been explained. Anger used a marker that the NFL just outlawed. So now they are not in sync as to exactly where the ball is being placed.

Aah ok. I just never heard it referred to as that. But I've seen it happen to athletes at every level. Something you normally do well, and suddenly you inexplicably can't do it, or struggle mightily.

IMO it's a result of overthinking it. I never had that issue because my brain isn't capable of overthinking anything. :)

Still, the question as mentioned........is just extra points or FGs too? Like you, extra points don't bother me as much but IF it's FGs too......we have a problem.

I heard a former NFL GM talking on the radio and he said this is what he would do:

First thing Tuesday morning he would make Maher kick FG's and extra points with Jerry, Steven, Big Mike, Will McClay and any other high up executives and possibly even the entire team all standing on the sideline just watching him; with the knowledge that his performance determines if he's fired or not and see how he reacts to the pressure.

I like that idea.

Are you going to waste a roster spot in the playoffs to carry 2 kickers.. Let him kick all week and see. There must be an explanation. After hitting almost everything all year. Maybe the turf. Maybe it’s what the refs said they were going to be watching for.

We should just false start 3 straight times on extra points let’s him kick it from 50. :D
Tbh I think that's not a bad idea, at least snap it from the 15-20 yard line
Also why the f did they continue to snap on the left hash mark, imo kicking off the right hash as a right footer is far more comfortable.

It is too late to make a change. What good free agent kickers are laying around?

You roll with Maher this week. Kickers are interesting critters. Let’s hope the yips are gone and his confidence is back.
Is our personnel situation so terrible we could not bring in a designated extra point kicker? Not joking: Maher is terrific from range. Has anyone checked his eyes? There is something structurally off of a guy who nailed almost everything from over 40, and hit numerous kicks from over 50 but who has trouble with extra points.

Lol, I called this after the 3rd miss. I was convinced the league highlighted that rule directly for us. Makes sense now. If they knew it was happening why the hell did they wait for the playoffs to do something?
