Should the Cowboys think about a new deal for LVE?

At this point you can feel his presence missed when he isn't playing. With others on this team our play can be up and down. With all that said, I'd hate to see him go to another team. He's actually a first rounder that's been good for us!

Please give your thoughts....

The grass is always greener. Meaning that some other team will always view him more than we want to give him so he is going to have to make a decision.

Really going to come down to what price tag his agent is asking for. I would love to have him but price would have to be moderate in price.

At what cost? He obviously has some value as a player, so it's not a yes or no question. Shades of gray....

If the team lets him leave, do they then have to use a draft pick to replace him? This team has a lot of pressing needs to address in the draft.

He is definitely worth keeping if it's a short term, cap friendly deal.

Dallas has Damone Clark who came in late as he was coming off surgery. No doubt not ready to take over starters role this year but I do think a full off season he should be able to. Guy had no camp went under the knife right after the Combines. I hope to keep LVE but it may be hard to do so

I think you have to look at how you can keep LVE. Is it necessarily possible? I don't know what to expect from him on the open market. With his injury history will teams go 3-5 years for the guy? Would he be open to less money, but more guaranteed money in a longer-term deal?

The other piece of this we have to consider is who will be the DC next year? LVE fits into what Quinn is doing here perfectly. Bring in a DC who is looking to change the scheme and LVE may not be the best player to spend a ton of money on, especially when you still have Pollard, Steele, Wilson, etc to worry about locking up too.

He's very valuable to the defense as we've seen - much more than many had thought.
However, there are the lingering health issues that hang over him

I would have loved to extend him this past offseason coming off a down season - but hindsight is 20/20
Now, he's gonna probably want his one large deal in his career - about to be 27 next month - and there's a good chance someone will pay it.

Franchise tag number is over $18million so can't see that as an option.

This is going to be a tough decision

Tough call because that position needs an upgrade IMO.

So I don’t want to say I’d like him back on a cheap deal. There goes your upgrade.

We do that WAY too often with our own players but since our GM doesn’t know much about the other players in the league, I suppose that’s gonna happen.

Of course they should. They should absolutely make him an offer but I would not give him a max contract. That goes to many of our soon to be fee agents. Its ok to say here is what we can do, or you see what other teams are willing to give and decide to match it or not. I just do not like it when Stephen assumes he wouldn't stay for a little less.

They obviously should bring him back for next season.

No. He's just not what we need. True, he's better than recent performance. But he's still not even close to being adequate for the position. He got "Trucked" by a wr not named Evans in the Tampa game.

Clarke may have the physical abilities, but he hasn't shown to have the mental acuity LVE has.
