Trading multiple first round picks is going all in.
We have a different definition of all in. Jerry never has been afraid of the splash move, but one splash move guarantees you nothing. You've got to couple splash moves, with good drafts and good bargain FA acquisitions.

Philly is a good example of this. Trading a first-round pick for A.J. Brown isn't the only thing that the Eagles did to put themselves over the top this year. They made several moves to supplement what they had built through the draft.

By the way, you still didn't answer the question. But it appears by all your posturing that you'd prefer the 10 playoff years over the one Super Bowl year and five bad years.

That’s a dumb assumption.
So it's wrong? You seem to be avoiding actually answering. The scenario is pretty simple.

I'll even change it up for you by making it more realistic. Would you rather have done what the Rams have done the past 10 years or what we have done?

If you pick the Rams, then that means you'd prefer to go all in because they did ... for both titles.

Well trading 2 1st round picks reeks of going all in.

No. That just reeks of Jerry being Jerry.

Look at the Rams last year. They traded for Stafford. They traded for Sony Michel. They traded for Von Miller. They signed Odell Beckham.

That's in addition to other costly moves they had already made to supplement their (few) draft picks. Trading for Ramsey, signing Whitworth as a FA, etc.

I don't agree with giving up as much draft capital as they did, but that's all in. That's identifying your weaknesses and addressing them. Not just picking up one costly player and expecting that to put you over the top.

Of course it’s wrong.
OK. If it's wrong, then why are you criticizing a team for going all in to get that one Super Bowl win? You agree that it's worth it even if they are bad for several years because of it.

And now they’ll be irrelevant for years to come.

I don’t agree that it’s worth it. I believe in building through the draft. I also think you should acquire talent during the season to address weaknesses especially if you’re going to make the playoffs. But I don’t believe in giving up multiple draft picks like the 49’ers and Rams did .

Sounds like you are backtracking then. Now you are saying winning a Super Bowl like the Rams did isn't worth it.

You seemed to agree (although you still never really said) that you would take one Super Bowl followed by five bad seasons over 10 playoff seasons but no Super Bowl, but now you are saying that what the Rams did (which so far is 1 Super Bowl followed by 1 bad season) isn't worth it.

I believe that winning a Super Bowl is worth whatever it costs. It worked for the Rams, so it was absolutely worth it. If it works for the 49ers, then it will have been absolutely worth it.

And we've been irrelevant for almost 30 years. Maybe we wouldn't have been if we'd gone all in during one of those seasons where we had actually built a pretty good team.

Do whatever it takes to win a title. Don't let good teams go to waste.

What were they supposed to do? Their seed was locked in. They didn't purposely lose to affect their seeding. They got the 6 seed they wanted and won a playoff game. They were never going to win a divisional round game with this team.

When we saw the Giants weren't trying to win, we rolled out the most generic approach we could and all of our players played half speed to just complete the game. To the point where people overreacted and thought the ship was sinking.
This is precisely why you play that last game to win. Pretty much out of desperation. You do anything to get the team to believe they can win. They embarrassed themselves out there today.

Every fan is different. I can't blame someone for what they'd rather see. I like the Eagles approach. Not so much the Rams approach. But I'll do anything to win a championship. And despite what people think, it's not going to take the Rams that long to bounce back. It doesn't work that way in the NFL anymore.

I like the Eagles approach.
So do I.

You know what's funny? When you here about where the Eagles are at and why they seem brilliant in trades is because of Howie Roseman.

Thing is, Howie Roseman doesn't own the Eagles, and the more ironic thing is you don't read about that much of Eagles owner (funny, my mind went blank trying to think who he actually was, Jeff Laurie).

Take a look at this own forum and see who's name has come up more, Roseman or Laurie.

THIS is the reason Jerry Jones needs to take a hard look in the mirror.

I'll make a prediction... Since I don't live in Texas and get the scoop on Dallas, the question I have is how much is Stephen like Jerry? Honestly don't know if Jerry would ever sell the team, but perhaps it would be Stephen's cash out ticket for the entire family and he would sell? Or is Stephen to much like Jerry?

Back to my prediction....If Jerry dies and the team is in the Jone's hands, if Stephen is anything like Jerry, will be a long time before the Cowboys win a SB unless Stephen isn't afraid to admit he doesn't know what he's doing and if his dad isn't around, not afraid to hire people smarter than himself when it comes to football..

The Jerry of old took more chances, but he wasn't smart about it, or didn't know what he was doing. Trades, picks, moving up or down in the draft, and the salary cap is entirely different game from the one played on the field. Roseman is good at it without selling the farm. The Rams pushed all of their chips into the center and hoped for the best. Great if it works out. Not so great if it doesn't.

What we're seeing the Cowboys do I believe is mainly Stephen and maybe that other guy running the show. I forget his name. They take the cautious approach. I think they do this because they're not very good at that game. Their approach is indicative of what an amateur would do so he doesn't screw anything up. A low or no risk approach.

We really don't know what Stephen will do when Jerry passes. It's more of a business to him. He'll probably want to pass it on to his kids. But he's certainly not hell bent on playing that secondary game, nor learning it. So we can only hope he hires a GM when the time comes.

Imagine going into a divisional game thinking you can win with Richie James and Darius Slayton as your WRs.
Imagine people thinking Jones sucks when he went to the divisional game with Richie James and Darius Slayton as his WRs, and a horrible offensive line.

Makes sense. Old Jerry was still a wildcatter at heart and was willing to take big risks. as he has grown older and more comfortable, now he just likes making a splash now and then.
His trading of picks to get stars did not work and that probably cooled his ardor on that as well.
Stephan is much more cautious I agree. What this has all resulted in is a team that will make the playoffs most of the time but will never sniff a SB unless it truly lucks out hugely.
and to be blunt like this year when the real power appears to be in the AFC, even if we somehow make it the odds are we will get splattered.

The Rams approach got them to two SBs and won one. To me that is worth say 5 years of stinking as long as the management shows progress towards getting there again

The Eagles approach is more calculated and will result in a more consistent team. Now whether it will get them to multiple SBs like it did the Rams we have yet to see.

I would take either approach over the better than average system we have now. No real risks; and sadly mos of the risks (2nd rd picks) have not worked out.
No big FA pickups; and sadly too much money to our own players as the we like our guys thing is taken too far.

268 yards rushing is all that mattered yesterday. It was the OL and the secondary additions that made all the difference yesterday.
