Curious case of Kayshon Boutte

I think Boutte would warrant a 1st round selection if there were no off the field concerns.

But yea, outside of him not crazy about anyone.
It's really a below average class, where we might not see a WR drafted until the late teens or early 20's. Cowboys need to fill this need prior to the draft and then add another one day 2 or 3.

Fringe 1st round talent doesn’t compare to the type of prospect Boutte was touted as before he hurt his ankle in 2021. He wasnt being discussed as 1st round, or even top 20, it was a matter of how high in the top 15 he was going. A bad 2022 has hurt that stock…but I wouldn’t put it out of the realm of possibility that his ankle just wasn’t healed 100% yet. Obviously that would require medical testing to clear.

As far as his attitude/personality…I just don’t know. As far as I can tell there were never any run ins with the law nor was he suspended in any kind of way.
Joseph didn't have issues with the law in college either, but he was extremely immature, his college coach was happy he was sitting out their bowl game and entering the NFL.

I’d bet a strong wager we’ll see 3 go before our pick just due to the value of the position.

Probably right, but they are taking fools gold if you ask me. I like the SMU receiver, but not in the 1st rd.

I’d say Johnston, Addison and either JSN / Hyatt are all locks.

I don’t think Rice is a top 50 player.

Very boom or bust player. Less talented than George Pickens … but he will either be very good or just won’t get it.

And hopefully all before we pick so a superior prospect can fall. I just don’t see any of these guys as #1/1B(like a Tee Higgins) type of WR’s. I’d much rather get someone at a different position with a higher ceiling in round 1 and get a WR with similar #2/good slot upside in round 2 or 3.

All look like good #2s which is very important in todays NFL.

If all 4 are gone that means we might have a stud OT / Edge / CB fall which is fine for me.

I like Boutte's game and feel like he'll be one of the top WR in this draft class when its all said and done. Didn't have a great season last year but his talent will jump out at the combine & pro day and then will hit NFL team's radar.

Looking back on the season, Boutte didn't have crazy production due to Max Johnson leaving for TAMU, that was Max's bread & butter and deservingly so. Boutte was close to transferring to Bama along with Eli Ricks but pressure from LSU fans/staff eventually won at the end and stayed but I can only imagine that Bryce would have made him WR1 in this draft class for sure.

Noooo thank you.

You don’t win with guys like him.
I agree to an extent…

But would fans say they’re happy we rolled the dice on Dez? Granted I think Dez was a blue chipper and Boutte is not.

I viewed Dez differently than I do this guy.

To be fair, I don’t have all the facts, so maybe I’m wrong… but yeah, I view him as a Bossman Fat type.

Dez was just an over emotional guy who was somewhat of a knucklehead.

Dez was also kicked out of school for a year…it was a pretty big deal.

Again I had Dez as a legit, blue chip prospect so different comparison but just trying to share some perspective.

I’d never take Boutte in the 1st…but if the team did some heavy research and felt good about him in the 2nd? I’m at least open to it IF the team does legit homework.

Yeah, for eating breakfast with Dieon Sanders and lying about it. I remember.

Fair enough. Like I said, I haven’t really looked that closely at Boutte, I might feel a little better about him after I dig into his past some. A late round pick would make me feel differently than I would about a 2nd round pick, also.

There is nothing curious to me about him.

He is a character risk.

He has talent, but I am not dealing with the rest.

He would need to be in the 2nd or 3rd for me to exhaust a pick on him.

Yup! I’m in Louisiana I might take a flyer in the fourth if a roll of toilet paper was the only other option. These guys that half a *** their final year of eligibility always seem to fail!

He is going to to blow up the Combine, recent LSU WRs have done well in the NFL.maybe a candidate for our 2nd Rd pick.

What exactly is his character issue. I read a disagreement with the coach.

He reportedly wasn’t as involved with the team in the off-season while he was recovering from ankle surgery as Brian Kelly wanted.
And then there are reports of bad body language during games and possibly not going 100% at all times.
Not sure if there are any known issues prior to Brian Kelly though.

Are those “red flags” as in do not draft? I guess up for interpretation, but definitely needs to be looked into at the least for sure. But from what we can tell as fans on the outside, I’m not sure there’s enough to write him off yet. He was recovering from an ankle injury that required 2 surgeries. I’m also not sure I can blame a kid for having an issue with how he’s being used when he has millions of $’s on the line (went from 60/40 lined up outside to almost 100% slot with Kelly) . As we all know, most WR’s have a bit of diva to them, but many have been successful despite it.
