Emmanuel Forbes at 26?

I wouldn’t mind it at all. I kind of view him as Witherspoon lite… and Witherspoon might be my favorite player in this whole draft.

You’re going to hear a lot of people here saying that he is a bad tackler, and that we can’t have another bad tackler in the defensive backfield (along with Diggs).

However, the guy isn’t that bad tackling. He isn’t afraid of the contact and can be very aggressive hitting the ball carrier. It isn’t something that he couldn’t correct with the coaches, IMO. If Dallas drafts him, they will be comfortable with his tackling.

He has just about every positive that I want in a corner. He’s a feisty, combative, natural outside corner who is aggressive, plays the ball, has very good eyes, and is a born ball hawk (which you either are or you aren’t… you can’t really coach that). He is long, athletic, and twitchy.

Playing opposite Diggs, his length and athleticism, along with his combative and aggressive nature would be no walk in the park for the WR to deal with. He is a pain in the *** to play against.

Frankly, starting day 1 he would be much more difficult to deal with than anyone Dallas had opposite Diggs last year. He would improve every week too. And with ball skills very much like Diggs, he would just about make the offense have to throw at a guy who will flat out take the ball away from you. Plus, Bland is a little bit of a ball-hawk himself, creating a environment where QB’s would be very nervous.

Really, the only negatives that I see with Forbes is his hit-and-miss tackling and a frame that could be a little bit thicker. I think he would immediately make the Dallas defense better and is an attitude and aggressiveness that I would love to inject into that side of the ball. And really, that is why you draft a corner… to make your defense better.
Speed?

He told reporters today that he's around 173 pounds. If the Cowboys could get him to around 185 to start the season that would be good.
No, do you know what 12 lbs would do to him? Wouldn't be the same player anymore.

Coming from a has been athlete who’s around the same size and has bounced around from 175 to 185 it would do nothing to his athleticism.

With proper weight training and good nutrition 10ish pounds is nothing.

I agree, I remember how Newman looked after his first season with the Cowboys. My bigger issue is he fast enough?

We’ll find out tonight. Ideally sub 4.5 but read this week we ran zone about 70% of the time last year so a burner isn’t the end all be all.

Someone with quick feet / hips and good instincts can get away running a low 4.5 40.

I’m guessing similar speed as Diggs.

Well, we’re about to find out tonight.

Like @Cowboyny just said… about the same speed as Diggs seems about right.

What I like so much about him is that he’s a natural corner and he has great eyes. He knows what he’s seeing and is always looking for the ball.

He is just a good football player. That is why I get a lot more excited about Forbes than I do the very talented Ringo. First and foremost, these guys are football players. Forbes is really good at that.

It is why I love Witherspoon more than the supremely talented Gonzales.

As I have already said, I think Forbes would be a big upgrade for the defense from day 1.

He has that strength we have been lacking in years, until Diggs arrive, being able to locate the ball when his back is turned to the QB. He has the necessary length, just missing that track speed and has a very small frame

If they are interested in him and not Turner I give up on them. Like them picking Joseph over adebo and Samuel

6’ tall and only 166? That’s crazy thin for an nfl player. That has to be a concern going up against 200+ pound WR’s

Yep, that’s about it. He has a ton that I want in a corner… including the eyes, ball skills and attitude that I look for.

If he runs good enough, the only real question is would the team be comfortable with his tackling?

I think they would. Like I said, it isn’t really bad anyway… it just isn’t ideal.

Definitely we will in the discussion at 26, they are talking a high corner based on who they have been visiting with.

Yeah, they’re covering their bases with that. I think they expect a CB to be the BPA at their first and/or their second round pick.

That is highly possible too. Very good year for corners.

Or they just won’t spend the $ on a free agent CB which will pigeon hole us into taking a CB early. That’s the Cowboy way.
