Let’s hear it. Tell us the player that the Cowboys have shown interest in that you absolutely dread taking in Round 1 and why.

Here’s mine…O’Cyrus Torrence

Heavy feet, waist bender, struggles moving laterally, and a marginal athlete. I have not liked the film I’ve seen on him (and there’s a lot of it).

I think we could do much better in later rounds than him.

There's not a lot of guys I hate, honestly. This looks like a very deep class and there are tons of good players.

Michael Mayer would be a dud as a 1st round pick. I don't see him as a meaningful upgrade over Schultz.

Kelee Ringo has some pretty iffy tape, and there are so many other monster athletes at CB this year. If we go with Ringo over say Forbes or Cam Smith, it's probably because we went looking for "prototypes" instead of football players.

Jordan Addison would have me nervous. His tape is awesome, but his size and speed are almost identical to Cole Beasley. That doesn't inspire confidence in the first round.

I couldn't hate a Bijan pick, because he is basically bust-proof and his worst case is putting up 5 years of monster production. But it would show that Jerry is looking for flash instead of winning football games. Bijan doesn't get us out of the divisional round.

Schmitz. Good prospect, but position value is bad and we already have a good OC. He isnt Ceasar Ruiz and while he could play OG I dont think he would be a stud there like Ruiz

Musgrave (although I am not sure he's really a first round guy). One, I don't see the TE value in the first. Two, he's a combine warrior with no real college production coming off a major injury. Too big a risk.

Agree with beware on Addison. He's the opposite of Musgrave. Great production but his physical traits are not great. You could throw Mayer into that mix as well as great college production, but physical traits are ehhhh. But again, I am not sure there is value in a first round TE.

Any TB. Simply because there just isn't the ROI there IMO. But I understand that a TB might be the best player available.

Breese. I get the back story with the issues and I see he has talent but his tape is all over the map. Someone made the compaison to Jordan Davis who went to Philly last year. Another physical specimen whose tape was all over the map. Davis was up and down as a rookie in Philly, in part battling an injury, but I am not sure he's ever going to be "great". Breese strikes me as the same type.

I would disagree on the 1st round RB.

Last year’s 26th overall pick (Jermaine Johnson III) signed a 4-year deal worth $13.08M (yearly avg. of $3.27M).

Let’s just say Bijan drops and you take him at #26 overall. You presumably get an elite productive talent for four years on a relatively paltry ($3.27M per season + whatever marginal yearly increase) deal. Comparatively, the cost to franchise an RB is $10M, and cost of the contract you would have to give to sign a free agent like Saquon Barkley will be much more than that rookie salary slot.

At the end of the rookie deal you can say peace out.

This always fun especially when we are wrong. Forbes, cornerback for me.

When you are drafting bottom of the 1st you have to look at bust avoidance as much as who you actually want. I would prefer trenches I dont think that is likely unless 25 teams pass on Jalen Carter in which case I am running to the podium with his name on the card. There are a few I am leery about and at the top of that list the 166 pound CB.

I don't wan't any offensive player in the 1st rd. Our best chance of winning is to have a dominant defense. Ideally one that stuffs the run, creates 3rd and longs, applies tons of pressure and creates turnovers setting up a short field for our offense.

A large DT that can stuff the run while also being able to apply a little pressure in passing situations (Mazi Smith as an example)
A middle LB like Campbell.
A ball hawking CB like Forbes
A Safety to replace Wilson. Skinner, Brown, Hickman etc.

Offense needs a mid round RB to team With Pollard and replace Zeke.(There are many)
A mid rd WR with some traits. Trey Palmer as an example.
A mid rd TE that offers something different than Ferguson and Hendershot. Maybe the big guy from old diminion.
A late rd OG/C for depth. Forsyth maybe.

Bryce Young. pass pass pass. a hard pass.

The challenge here is good RB and great RB play basically changes nothing in how far a team goes in the playoffs.

It also factors into FA costs. Ex the Cowboys need a RB and a WR. They could get a good vet FA RB for about 5 mil whereas it would cost them about 15mil for a good vet WR.

This is why if we’re choosing between Jordan Addison and Bijan at 26 I take Addison every time with zero hesitation. Give me the premium position at a super discount.

Any RB now that they franchised Pollard. Terrible use of assets to burn 10mil more and then double dip on a premium pick. And I like Gibbs a lot.

Any TE. Mayer, Musgrave, etc... I think only Mayer could be ready year 1 as an inline TE and not be a huge liability in the run game.

TE, RB now that we have 10 million on Pollard, WR

We need to stay in the trenches or anywhere on D. Really need to surround Micah with top players.

I would love a trade down a few spots if we have a willing partner.

Nobody that really stands out that would really make me nervous like a Manziel or Haynesworth.

DT’s Bresee, Mazi Smith, and Siaki Ika. I just don’t think they are round 1 guys.

OG - Ocyrus Torrence. The more I looked at him, the more I realized he’s not my cup of tea. I’d take Schmitz 10 out of 10 times over Torrence.

WR - Rice. I just don’t think he’s a first round guy either.

I agree but the problem is that won’t happen and after year 3 Jerry will sign him to a mega deal
