Darnell Washington TE should be our pick inthe 2nd round

This dude is what we need to go along with Hendershot and Ferguson. He can block and make the contested catch.
Don't think he makes it to 58 with the combine he just had. He was Borderline rd1. Is that reaching, yes because the production isn't there. The size and the underwear Olympics will raise his stock. The TE everybody should be wanting is Bowers but that's not until next yr.

I don't see him making it out of the first. Other than a few of the offensive tackles and B. Robinson he's probably the only immediate three down player. At the very least he's a 2 down player and your best blocking TE by a mile day one. Adding a little projection in there he'd be a red zone mismatch and a player you'd want to get some manufactured touches. That's not something you think of with tight ends, but this is a guy that you just want to get the ball into his hands and let him run.

There was zero chance Washington was going to last to 58 before the combine.

There is less than zero % chance now
Very similar messurables to MartyB.

MartyB was a 2nd round pick by the Cowboys.

Marty B isn’t close to as athletic as Washington…4.08 shuttle for Washington. 4.58 for Bennett..Washington had the third
Best shuttle of the entire combine. Every player
I watched MartyB in camp multiple years. He was an incredible athlete.

SS and 3-cone require a little bit of practice to get a good time. It is unlikely that MartyB did anything to prep for the Combine. He was convinced that he would walk into the NFL as the best TE in the league...(his words).

I gave that comp the beginning of the offseason, very similar players. People tend to forget, Marty B was talented enough to play in the NBA, he was a very athletic player but zero upstairs.

That’s fine. He’s not the athlete Washington is.

Washington is my favorite for the 26th pick because he improves are running game immediately and would be perfect for the 12 personnel with Ferguson. Georgia was such a dominant team it is hard to take stats seriously. His stats were similar to Ferguson with Wisconsin plus had another pass catching tight end to compete with at Georgia. My only fear is Washington could turn out to be that Alabama tight end that Tampa drafted. His stats were mediocre in college and he never developed as a pro.

It would be sooo tempting to take him. Running 12 with him and Ferguson could be a real problem for defenses. I love that type of smash mouth / mismatch football.

Gronk 2.0. Line him up on the left next to Tyler, play action to Pollard and hit a streaking OBJ for the long TD.

The Combine also does a very poor job of measuring upper body strength. The only test that attempts to measure it is the 2-plate bench press, which is statistically just noise.

Washington is a pretty crazy mover for his size, and the Combine captured that, but he's also just physically stronger than every other TE this year, and the Combine didn't record that.

On a side note, I think the NFL should replace the bench press with a medicine ball throw. The Combine bench press is an endurance test in a sport where most plays last 5 seconds. A ball throw would measures a player's ability to instantly generate power inside that window.
