Post Combine, pre-fa Mock Offseason

Not a fan of Washington in the 1st…but overall great haul.
Wanted to put real resources into the run game. Washington is a difference maker as a blocker, hell he almost is another tackle.

Pretty good overall

-Gotta draft or sign a guard. This leaves us starting Farniok at LG or Ball at RT if/when Tyron (or anyone) misses games.

-I’d prefer Kincaid or Mayer over Washington. I don’t see high upside in Washington as a receiving target, even if he is a good overall player.

-Love the player, but kinda doubt Brents gets to the late 3rd. Would be a great pick there tho
Might have to push up Brents to 58 and draft another back at 90.

@Cowboyny Dono never ran a 40 for anyone, but if he did his explosion number indicate he'd have a good time.

Watching Trey Dean III he started out as a conerback and it's good he has the temperament to play Safety. I like his aggressive style of tackling. Dean ran a 4.75 40 but I saw him run with Jalin Hyatt. I think Dean needs a damn good coach to get him a to be really good. The young Safeties already in Dallas are better imo, but I like the pick after watching him, very good draft.

Donovan Wilson was selected in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL Draft by the Dallas Cowboys. Donovan Wilson 40 Time Donovan Wilson has a 40-yard dash of 4.85 seconds

Think Dean has similar strengths as Wilson, more of a downhill run player. Finding a strong safety is far easier then finding a coverage, free safety. Believe there should be a few options in this range, I know the Cowboys have interest with Dean.

I hear you, just think you can get a good blocking TE way later.

Washington has high upside but I think his receiving is a huge question mark.

He is an unique talent, but yes, more of an upside pick as a receiver.

If he didn’t put that to rest at the combine, he will in 4 days at his Pro Day. I bet he’ll show he can even run a seam route as well as the smaller TEs.

I really like him and the rest of the top te’s in the class, very good yr needing a TE. It’s really what flavor of ice cream you like with these guys, I wanted to take the best blocker

Washington is like another offensive tackle on the field. Don’t see high picks coming inside the trenches.
No he’s not but I’m not against drafting him if he’s BPA, my point is that if we plan on this draft then we need to get starting caliber LG and DT in FA

Can’t ignore FA and then have this draft

4.85 was Wilson’s 40 time as a HS senior. He never ran the 40 at either the combine or a pro day. I think it’s fair to say that he would have improved on that time, but not by a crazy amount. I’d say mid 4.6’s is a reasonable guess.

I honestly don’t know much about Dean so don’t know how he does/doesn’t compare to Wilson, but I will say that I think you are undervaluing Wilson’s coverage ability. While yes he does his best work as a tackler in the box, he did play a decent amount of deep zone and was more than serviceable. Kearse played near the line of scrimmage a lot and Wilson was able to develop into a more traditional S role.

He will create such a mismatch that it will unbalance opposing defenses. They’ll have to gameplan for him.

What site says Dono ran a 4.8?
This is a better representation of Dono's 40.

The 4.85 is from High School.

Dean played a lot of FS from the looks of the defense, he's decent, but I don't think he's talented enough to replace Wilson...more of STs guy imo.

Going to stick with my fa projection during this week's post:

Resigned: Hankins, Rush
Not Resigned: Shultz, Noah Brown, McGovern, Lve, Wilson, Anthony Brown
Veteran Cuts-Zeke
OBJ WR, Wagner LB, Peterson CB, Gay PK

Mock Draft-I see this team going back to more of that 2016 run first mold.

1-Darnell Washington TE-Georgia (Not my top TE, but is an excellent piece to kickstart our rushing attack)
2-Zach Charbonnet RB-UCLA (Might be a little high to take a power back, but really like his fit replacing Zeke)
3-Juluis Brents CB/S Kansas State (Fits that Dan Quinn profile and is very physical)
4-Jonathan Mingo WR Ole Miss (He is that big X receiver, in the Dez Bryant mold)
5a-Trey Dean III S Florida (Will compete to become the starting SS to replace Wilson)
5b-Jared Clark NT Coastal Carolina (Adds depth behind Hankins)
5c-Max Duggan QB TCU (Cowboys have shown a lot of interest with him)
6-Andrew Vorhees G USC (Draft and stash after tearing his acl)
7-Mekhi Gardner CB LSU (Another Dan Quinn type of Corner)
Wilson ran a 4.64 forty but pulled a hamstring during the run and they didn't record it as official.

That means he was somewhat faster than the 4.64 time.

Think he is part of the solution, mind you we are talking about a day 3 pick.
