Would you bring Schultz back on a 1-year deal?

I'd wait til after the draft.. a stud TE might hit a gas mask bong or something... and fall into our laps..

do you want him for 9 million? That’s what Gesicki got

KM schemed Schultz open and he is not a good blocker.

Franchise last year was the correct decision. Prevented them from reaching for need in the draft.
I guess that I look at it like this: It’s best to have a guy to fill the position that you know can do it (like Schultz last year). But there is a point where you go with a draft pick or unproven player when the cost gets too high.

Bland was unproven last year and he played very well. One might well argue that you can’t count on a guy like Bland doing what he did because that’s a recipe for disaster.

On the other hand you have Gus like Parsons, Bland (and for that matter Dak in his rookie year). You overpay maybe for a guy like Travis Kielce. But it’s a mistake to overpay for average talent (Schultz)

I may be in the minority, but I would rather go with unproven than over pay for average. Thats a mistake the Cowboys have made repeatedly.

To be honest I thought Schultz would be off the market by now. The longer he goes without a deal the more likely he ends up back in Dallas cheap(er).

They do have around $20 million of cap space at the moment, not counting whatever Cooper Rush's number for 2023 is.

Not a fan of paying him again, but the Cowboys do like their guys.

on a team friendly deal i would be very happy to get him back...hes a good TE, great chemistry with Dak and would make a lot of sense in the 5M a year range....get him for that and I am in.

I'll add this... At #26 in the draft, you'll see a lot of lineman, CB & receivers off the board, and of course a few QB's. There is the outside possibility that you could grab an elite TE, in a draft loaded with good ones. Not sure how I feel about using a first rounder on a TE (rather OL or DL), but a very very good TE might be the best player on the board!

Gesicki's value got trashed from Miami's lack of usage from him in McDaniel's offense.
1 year up to 9mil.
I think it's only Schultz left for the notable FA TE left.

Engram, Tonyan both signed 1 year deals, with Engram's deal being 11.3mil.

Hooper never could recreate his success from ATL.

I can see 1-2 year deal at $8M per year. Any higher than that is too much. That way you can try to grab a DT in the first 3 rounds along with WR and RB, and shore up OL, LB, and CB a little more.

I wouldn't. There is a reason teams aren't clamoring over him.

IMO, there are 2 types of "good" TEs: dynamic, seam-stretchers - who usually aren't great blockers and safety-blanket/good blocking types.

Schultz is a safety-blanket that is a poor blocker. That's a dime-a-dozen TE. I want to see what our young guys can do, and would be open to drafting a stud rookie.

Schultz is not the horrible blocker many say he is. Yes- he was a poor blocker early in his career, but he improved significantly as he bulked up for the NFL. I think it's fair to call him an average blocker. He is a balanced tight end, but not elite in either phase.
