I can confirm Smith had private meetings with the Jets, Steelers, and Jaguars. In fact, he met with Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin twice this week.

The sense I’m getting is the Steelers would select Smith over Bryan Breese of Clemson if, in fact, it is a battle between the two at pick No. 17. Pittsburgh would prefer Smith’s rough-and-tumble style over the finesse Breese brings.

What happens like clock work every year? QBs and linemen both sides get over drafted.

I think 17 is crazy high for Smith

Smith is big, powerful and athletic. He just looks like the kind of player the Steelers would draft. High ceiling player, at the very least will be heck of run stopper at the next level.

Same here. But teams do funny things. The key is not doing funny things.

That's why I think wr have a good shot at Flowers, Forbes, Gibbs..all solid players at positions of need.

There could be other players they like at #17. Heck, Jalen Carter might drop that far.

I wonder if they would really take Gibbs. Love the player.

Steelers have the first pick in the second round. I think that I where they want to get Mazi.

Why doesn't jalen carter get the lack of production knock?
Tremendous talent, but it’s fair to question his work ethic. There is this narrative that Georgia rotates their players so often that it didn’t allow him to put up better numbers. There are times that he absolutely disappeared. Against Ohio State didn’t even know he was on the field. And after his workout he’s obviously poorly conditioned. Can be as good as he wants to be. But he could absolutely go the other way.

Tomlin knows two things: 1) Where they are drafting they likely wont find a big upgrade to Picket who the just drafted and..... 2) Where games are won and lost.......trenches.
Apparently Tomlin doesn’t like listening to himself? The Steelers almost never draft DL or OL early. Have to go all the way back to Tuitt in 2014 since they’ve spent a 1st or 2nd round pick on either side of the line. So maybe they are due…

As for defense the strength of a 3-4 is LB. And they have regularly used high picks there.

They did have a span of a few years awhile back where they took OL like Pouncey and Decastro in the 1st and DL Heyward as well as Tuitt in the 2nd.

But yeah, lately they’ve been going offense early, and mainly skill players, QB, RB, WR, TE.

But whatever they do, I hope it doesn’t work.

Wouldn’t touch Mazi before the third…I don’t think he’s good

Taking Mazi in the top 20 would be about as dumb as taking Jordan Davis in the top 20.

#17 overall for a dude with 6 career TFLs.... ok then.

Someone sell me on Mazi Smith. No production. Mediocre tape. Mediocre Pro Day measurables. What makes him different from Carlos Watkins?

He has good play strength, but doesnt always use it. His anchor isnt consistent. People might be squinting and seeing Daron Payne. I think Benton is a better overall DT
