This time looking at day 2 prospects. Make cases both for and against each player

Devon Achane, HB, Texas A&M

Darius Rush, CB, South Carolina

Josh Downs, WR, North Carolina

Byron Young, DT, Alabama

Izzy Pitt and Miller TCU those are my day 2 RBs. For Wideouts I like Palmer and Mingo.

Case for Devon Achane.
Elite Speed. Thick build. Has played in the SEC. Has speed you cannot teach. Does not have a fumbling issue. Can return kicks.
Case against Devon Achane
Size. He is 5'9" 188lbs which could cause injury issues. Also keeps him from being a bell cow back. Hard to block 250lb LB's on a blitz when you are 188 lbs.
Tony Pollard came in at just shy of 6' and 210, and look at the blocking issues he has had.

So how are you going to use him?

Rush-has all the elite, physical traits.
Cons-new to the position, doesn’t look like an elite athlete on film.

I’m actually finding it hard to make the case for Achane on this team. His size is obviously a limiting factor for his role. Speed is a positive but I don’t see elite quickness or elusiveness that you might expect.

Rush is a bag of physical tools. He’s a guy I’d be targeting in early Day 3. I think he’s a much better package and upside than NaShon Wright. He makes a lot of sense given the contract situation of some of our DBs in 2024. To me, Rush would compete w/Wright for a roster spot this season.

I wouldn’t want to touch Downs until Round 3. I don’t care what anyone else says, he’s a slot only guy. His upside are his ball skills which are impressive for a guy his size. I’m open to him but just in the right spot in the draft.

small fast

Darius Rush, CB, South Carolina

Backup, NFL caliber size and length

Josh Downs, WR, North Carolina

Secon best WR in the draft, small

Byron Young, DT, Alabama

Technically sound with excellent production not quick twitch

Achane - I really like Achane but have a really hard time drafting a RB that’ll get you killed in pass pro.

Rush - oozing with traits but better athlete than football player. Still a good mid round target.

Downs - slot super stud. Probably won’t give you much outside but could be a consistent separator and chain mover on 3rd down. Bigger and Better and more explosive version of Beas who Dak loves as a rookie. Good target in 2nd.

Young - one of my favorite DTs in this class. Not going to really wow you in anything but just a rock solid and steady player that I think could give us a ton of snaps.

Achane doesnt do much for me.

Devon Achane, HB, Texas A&M-
Pro- Dynamic with the ball in his hands and a HR threat
Con- Probably only a 10-12 touch a game change of pace back, will be hard to keep him in on 3rd down because of pass pro.

Darius Rush, CB, South Carolina

Pro- Checks all the boxes with size, athleticism and ball skills.
Con- The only real con I have on Rush is what his ceiling is. I think he will be a really solid pro as a #2 boundary CB. Not sure I see him becoming elite and maybe not even a pro bowler.

Josh Downs, WR, North Carolina

Pro- Shifty route runner, good hands and dangerous with the ball in his hands
Con- Size limitations probably make him a slot only.

Byron Young, DT, Alabama

Pro- Very long arms and huge hands. Strong and can stand his ground at the point of attack.
Con- I don’t see any standout traits. Not a quick gap shooter and not sure he’s currently big enough to be a true run stuffing 1 tech.
