If they hit on a lot of this year's rookies. They will still be good.
Agreed.

What do you do with Dak and his ever increasing contract? Looks like he's not even going to consider giving the Cowboys a discount on an extension. Dak is owed almost $60 million next year. That's not including an extension...if he gets one.

I'm sorry to interrupt this Dak thread, but can we talk about the UDFA?
Anyone surprised by who got big $ and who didn't?
Little surprised Land didn't get more. He seems like the type of player you'd want to develop and that at the very least could be a core special teams guy. I liked him better than Wheat who they paid more.

A good chance that Dak does very well for the Cowboys and they keep him around. They do need to draft one soon. They may have missed the boat when they passed on Hooker at 58. He may turn to be the best qb in the draft.

Next years QB's are better and there are more of them. All better than Hooker. Should be 5 taken in the 1st round.

Yes, you pay quarterbacks and eat the final year cap hit when you are rebuilding and have a rookie deal QB.

The myth is that restructuring ever actually matters to the point of hurting a team.
Agree with you here, unless a restructure actually benefits the franchise... so thats a fine line.
Mistakes are made every day in the NFL, but the good teams make less mistakes.

I really wanted them to draft Jaren Hall. Something told me he was meant to be a Cowboy.

Oh well.

Hall was my 2nd pet cat behind Cropper.

Sorry, I disagree. You don't throw the future away just to please the masses for one chance to truly reach a SB. I would rather balance the payroll while being able to keep the playoff team intact and be in the playoffs every year, thus improving your chances to reach a SB, two or three. Some of you guys are so desperate, you've forgotten how it affects and destroys teams in the immediate long run.
Draft picks do matter you know

That's what happens when you don't have draft picks to replenish the roster.
Replenishment to roster youth and first contracts are extremely valuable and symbiotic.
Only go for the expensive Vet FAs or via trade when you feel really really close.

An extension would lower that, not raise it

Sure, an extension would lower the cap hit for the next 2 years, but it's only going to increase dramatically towards the last few years of an extension, even higher than the $60 million own next year in 2024.

Maybe, that’s up to the team. You can structure a deal almost anyway you want to.
