Anyone Else Get The Feeling Mazi has a Little Micah in Him?

We all talk about what an athlete Micah is, but Mazi is an athlete in his own right, has a 9.99 RAS. Micah Parsons has a 9.5ish.. Just to get a sense of what we're working with. Mazi was big and strong when he came in as a freshman, and his coaches said he just kept getting better and better. So he's been on a consistent trajectory of getting better, and the more you watch him, the more you see he has the kind of strength to play 1T and 3T. So he gives you that, and will obviously help you against the run off the bat, especially if you pair him with a guy like Hankins.

Plus, he just has that fire in him to get better.

There is one Lawrence Taylor
There is one Aaron Donald
There is one Micah Parsons

Comparisons to greats, esp. when they are completely different players in different positions...is borderline silly.

Mazi only tested Bench Press at the combine. It was impressive, but it sure would have been nice to get some official running, jumping and short space measurements.

I embrace Mazi (mocked him to Dallas myself multiple times), but think ultimately those hyping him right now...are only doing him a disservice. It's incredibly unlikely he will splash his rookie year.

Mazi getting hyped? This is hype? Mazi was at least a first round pick, not a 7th.

I have no idea about the new guy but we should start to see the Micah affect on the younger players now that he reaching veteran status.

I won't miss the days of the leader of the defense advising the rookies to skip the coach and go straight to Jerry if they have a problem.

Comparing Parsons and Mazi is hype, yes.
I have no problem comparing his athletic measurable coming out of the draft, which is what he did....fair to say they were similar on their RAS and that he sees the same type of upward trajectory....

I don't see anything other than comparing mazi at his point in time to where micah was at the same point and tying back to having the fire to be good...there really isn't anything there to call hype or deem as unfair to compare.

Now if he had said something about production or impact, outside of position flex which is also accurate, then I would have agreed with you

As best we know Mazi shares no close familial DNA with Parsons, no mutual pixie dust, no shared chewing gum.

Parsons had a 109 tackles and 5 sacks his senior season. He's one of the most unusual defensive rookies of the past decade in terms of his immediate impact.

Smith had 48 tackles and half of one sack his senior year. If he performs as well as some of the highly drafted NFL DT's in his rookie season...he might achieve 2 tackles per game his rookie season. Any real pass pressure is an unlikely bonus. It isn't fair to Mazi, or his family to build up expectations he's not going to reach.

Tro - the op made zero mention of stats, he made mention specifically of the key athletic attributes and position flex...both of which are accurate comparisons.

You are the one that brought up stats, there was no hype in the op, and certainly no statistical comparison, merely the comparison stated above.
.again not really sure where your pov of hype from the ops post is being derived

Parson's came out as a sophomore, he sat out his junior year due to covid and getting an agent before cfb decided to have a season.

Even the cowboys area scout said he had no idea he could rush off the edge, he saw him as a LB that could blitz.

While I agree the guys you mention are 1 of a kind, this does not mean no one will ever come along who is better. Someday all of these players will be surpassed by players in the future. It is just the nature of things.

But at the same time, it is not unreasonable to say that Mazi has a Micah-like desire to improve himself as a player. This doesn't mean he will ever achieve the level of success as Micah, but it is still a very desirable characteristic in a player you draft.

I think he's very similar to Micah in the sense that his athleticism might allow him to be a lot more in the NFL than he was used for in college.

In the same way that they didn't draft Micah to just be an off-ball LB, I don't think Quinn liked Mazi to just be a plug.

Exactly and spot on to the op.
