When I think it out about this upcoming Dallas Cowboys 2023 season, I was compelled to think of 5 Reasons to be EXCITED about this season, while also having 5 reasons to be concerned about the Cowboys seasons. This is how I see it:

FIVE REASONS TO BE EXCITED

1 McCarthy/Schottenhemier play calling vs Kellen Moore

2 Addition of WR Brandin Cooks/CB Stephen Gilmore

3 Big DTs (Hankins, Massi)

4 Pollard now starter and Involving RBs in pass game

5 Development of key young players (ala Sam Williams, Izzy Makamu. Mazzi, Clark)

FIVE REASONS TO BE CONCERNED

1 Dak adjusting to new Tex- Coast offense

2 FG kicker

3 Linebackers

4 OL changes

5 Tight Ends

Reasons for excitement are all good. Some tweaks,
1. Addition of Brandin Cooks , faster proven receiver , with hopefully fully fit Gallop.
2. OL hopefully better than last year in pass blocking and run blocking ( Steele is needed )
3. Better usage of RBs by big Mac and schotty
4. Improved Defense , hopefully DL keeps LBs clean and allows them to get to ball carriers . Secondary is as good as we ever had in recent times
5. Dak getting confidence from improved run game and playing better

concerns
1. OL - if someone doesnt step up to fill the hole until Steele is ready & LG we will have mediocore line. Tyler switching to LG is slightly concerning after he balled at Tackle last year.
2. Linebackers , one of the draft picks has to come through ( Cox, Clarke, Overshawn .. )
3. DEs (other than Micah) need to step it up , with this secondary if we cant bring pressure when passing , it is a shame. Parsons cant be lone lion attacking, we need a pack.
4. Kicker , I believe we will be ok but has to be seen.
5. Special teams , too much turnover - hope they get it together before season .

I'm legitimately excited for this season, especially the defense. Not only the additions of Gilmore and Mazi, but a young defense coming of age at the right time and DQ year #3. I think the offense will be fine. I don't need them to be high octane, looking for high percentage ball and eliminate the turnovers. But the icing is that teams won't be able to box in, we have speed in Cooks, Pollard to keep defenses honest. Plus I predict Deuce Vaughn will drives defenses crazy.
The only thing tempering my expectations is that the Eagles and 49ers improved this off-season as well. Plus I don't like our schedule. So I'm not falling into any kind of super-bowl or bust mental trap.

FIVE REASONS TO BE CONCERNED

1 Dak adjusting to new Tex- Coast offense
2 FG kicker
3 Linebackers
4 OL changes
5 Tight Ends
1. No concern - McCarthy wouldn't do it if Dak couldn't handle it. 70% isn't changing so not much new.
2. ABSOLUTELY no concern. Kicker???
3. No concern - we don't run a 3-4 defense we run a 5-2.
4. No concern - the deepest OL we have had in a while. Lots of flex.
5. No concern - best blocking group in a long time. Great receiving group.

That's a really good start. I can think of a lot more.

Excite - Defense

1. #11
2. Hankins and Mazi now in the middle
3. LVE and Wilson back
4. Diggs, Gilmore, Bland at CB
5. Quinn leading the charge again

Concern - Offense

1. New offense (sort of), Big Mac double-duty
2. No skilled blocking RBs
3. No large offseason upgrades at offensive line, Tyron and Zack one year older
4. TE by committee, potential, but Dak’s favorite target gone
5. Dak turnovers

Still nitpicking though to make 5 for the offense. Feel pretty good about team if everyone stays healthy.

If McCarthy makes it like it is with Andy Reid and Eric Bienemy in KC land where it is Andy Reid's offense ( McCarthy) ... but its Eric B ( Schott) that executes the X's and O's of the offense. there should not be the worries of any HC/OC double duties.

- If it is truth to the talk of Tyron at RT, and an ACL recovering Steele being forced to learn a new position at LG, this musical chairs could disrupt continuity at the OL unit

- Division titles, playoff berths, playoff advancement .. or exits are won or loss off the foot of the FG kicker in the most clutch of times.
Surely hope this does not come back to haunt us

- LVE had an up and down season, 1st half was brutal ..when he was out and missed it was because we had nada to rely upon as depth. And we still have some unknowns
which we just Hope we will be okay. Very little to zero experience at LB depth. And only one guy with key experience in LV.E

Your number one reason to be concerned. Should be the number one positive. That’s his rookie offense running again.

Deepest oline? Are you on crack? Our backups suck, one starter is injured and another starter is 100% going get injured.

worst oline we have had in years. Least deep.

I only need one reason, new season with a bunch of unknowns and I like it that way.

Will the play calling be better?
Will Pollard be at 100%?
Will the OL and DL stay healthy because neither is really deep except with pet cats.
How effective will the PK be?

But at this time the biggest unknown is will the QB be playing on this contract or a new one? Could make a huge difference to how we watch this season.

Which leads to the question that if they do not do a new contract and keep options open for next off season, how do the fans that do not want Prescott treat this season?

Can real fans watch their team play and pull against the QB in hopes of getting rid of him? There were the Romorooters that wanted him gone but not like the ones that do not like Prescott.

There is a lot to like about the Cowboys roster. We should expect another winning season and maybe better this year.

My concerns are the DL and OL. on the DL, Mazi is a rookie. How much can we expect from him? My concern is Gallimore and Bohanna. Both have been disappointing so far. Depth could be an issue while Mazi gets experience.

On the OL, I don't have a lot of faith in Tyron anymore. I don't care if he is playing LT or RT. I am not sure I love Tyler Smith a LG either. He belongs at LT. Is Terence Steele going to be the player he was before he got hurt? With him at RT the running game on the right side will be very good.

Also, what about RB? Will Pollard get hurt if he plays every down or the majority of snaps for 17 games? Who is behind him?

While I have these concerns, I still think there are lots of positives. Depth in the secondary. Quality pass rushers on both sides. I disagree that LB is a concern. I think with Parsons, LVE, Clark and Cox the Cowboys have one the fastest LB groups in the league. The Cowboys pass defense could be exceptional this year.

We just have to hope injuries do not derail the team this year.

for once i concur lol i worry a little about Depth at LB, and the OL if it doesn't gel due to injury and shuffling again but as it stands, I have no real concerns for this team until one pops up. no need to worry about things that haven't happened yet.

I have given up on Gallimore , ( he is one looks like Tarzan and plays like Jane - No offense Jane , LOL)

Bohanna is probably a backup only. So Osa, Hankins and Mazi will have to be force in the middle , May be Gholston can support.
