There's a clear frontrunner for Cowboys RB2 job behind Tony Pollard

Will Pollard produce the same efficiency and compile a similar clip of explosive runs with a significantly increased workload?

It's anyone's guess, really, but fans aren't totally off-base wondering if Pollard could wear down or show fatigue by the end of the season.

While Davis is battling to win the backup job behind Pollard, he received the majority of first-team reps this offseason as Pollard works his way back from tight-rope ankle surgery. Pollard has been present at practice, but Dallas is wisely managing his workload in hope that he'll be fully unleashed at training camp.

Davis' performance has caught the eye of one Mike McCarthy. What that in mind, the Cowboys really need a RB2 to emerge by the end of training camp. It appears to be an open competition, but the latest buzz post OTAs and minicamp indicates Malik Davis is the favorite to win the job.

UDFA JAG.
If they're playing up Davis as #2, it's time to bring in another back. Or 2.

I think Malik Davis displayed the wherewithal to find success with the Cowboys, if last year's limited contributions were any indication. There were times when the line wasn't overly impressive and Davis was successful, despite that fact being somewhat apparent. I think he'll prove to be what our staff envisioned him to be in the weeks ahead and in the regular season, also. He's experienced and seems very capable of finding success with the Cowboys being what they are. Hopefully, the OL will improve with our newfound backups proving themselves suitably capable, as well.

I would much rather see him get carries than Ronald Jones. I thought he looked good in the few snaps he got but anyone would look good coming in after slow motion Zeke.

TBD if Davis has anything. We know Jones sucks. People keep pointing to how he was decent in 2020. Three years is a long time for a RB.

So roster spots are being set in stone at OTAs? Can we at least wait until there is actual tackling?

Honestly I can see deuce and Kuhn 2.0 being the rb going into the season. Rojo could be the back up but I feel he will fall off and these two will push their way up the ladder. Davis I doubt makes it.

What if Ronald Jones ends up being the starter?

Or, what if Jones or Davis out plays Pollard, then will fans turn on him as well?:popcorn::muttley:

The team likes Davis more than many of us do, otherwise they would have drafted a running back higher in the draft.
The draft just played out the way it went. The backs that they would have taken were of the board each time their pick came up.

I think there's some truth to this. They might very well have taken one higher had the draft unfolded differently.

Still, it was not a high priority for them.

Shocker

Last years #3 is this years #2.

Expect a drop off from Pollard.

Hearing all the talk about is running more concerns me because we don’t really have a true every down starter, let alone a good backup.

I'm hoping that with Deuce, this Dallas team will be known for very explosive plays on runs and passes by the pair.
