When, I watch a football game, I watch the Offensive Line and Defensive front Seven. When the Cowboys play, I go back and rewatch to make sure I see it
the same way the second time.

I was impressed with Asim Richards watching the game live. Then everyone was trashing his performance.

So, I was sure that when I rewatched the game, it would be less impressive than I originally thought.

However, after rewatching the game, I came away even more impressed.

First, he has very quick feet and even when he takes the wrong step his feet let him get back in position. The sack, he was blamed for, I have timed at 4.12 seconds before
contact according to my stop watch. That should be ample time for an NFL QB to get the ball out. Besides Richards pushed the defender past the QB and Grier drifted back into the sack.

Also, keep in mind that Richards has been mostly playing guard in practice until Chuma Edoga got hurt a couple of days before the game and Asim was asked to step in against Travon Walker. He handled Walker easily except for one play and even then he recovered quickly enough to keep him from hitting the QB.

I'm very confident that if he keeps working hard he will be a very capable backup this year and perhaps much more in the future.

I was also impressed with Earl Bostick Jr. in the second half. Even though the competition wasn't to a level of Travon Walker.

I thought Josh Ball, Matt Farniok, Matt Waletzko and Brock Hoffman were all less impressive than either Richards or Bostick.

Theres another thread of people not trashing him.

Good post. I have yet to go back and watch the game or the all-22 of the OL… but I appreciate your point of view on what you saw.

The bottom line is that 5 backup OL against the starting defense of a playoff team is never going to look great, so when I watched the game, I expected issues, so I didn’t see it as the disaster that some saw. Some time this week I’ll rewatch and focus some on the OL… but your take sounds about right.

Alright, bull in the china closet drill with Matt Waletzko going up against Asim Richards for the rest of camp...daily!

As I said in the "Sign Zach Martin Now" thread, he stood out to me as well. He held his own. I guess he's a technique guy because he's not that strong. Unless he was hurt at the NFL Combine. He did only 13 reps on the 250-pound bench press. That's by far the lowest I've ever seen from a big man. Parsons did 18, and even that is not that good compared to other linebackers.

Brilliant? I am thinking more like, showed promise. Apparently he has spent a fair amount of time in the weight room since he got drafted, which was definitely needed. We could really use him to reach his full potential.

Yeah well you still call him Michael "Irvine" so we're not surprised.
Nah, I know how a g sounds. Not sure Asim is supposed to sound Awesome, though. I know the English language has been butchered but you shouldn't be able to get some out of sim no matter how you bend it.

So, you really had your stopwatch out? 4.12 seconds, huh? Very impressive by you.

BTW, thanks to you & others for reminding us that not only Farniok, Trippin' Ball, and Waletznotgothere are vying for OL roster spots. I'll certainly be more focused on the lesser know quantities as they may end up having a place on this team.

Thank you!

I remember on draft night the comments from Cowboy people that he needs a year in the system and the weight room. The expectation was he would be ready to compete for a starting job in 2024. Loved this draft pick.

How do you not use awesome instead of brilliant in the thread title?

I mean, cmon. It's right there.
