Man he has a list of qbs he "almost" got. Andy Dalton was one of them about 2 years after he was drafted we heard all about it.

I dont think he advertises his "almost" misses. Maybe he should talk about Johnny football lol.

I'm not a Jerry hater, but he's "almost" got us to another championship, and "almost" a good gm. The thing about almost.....
 
I'm glad we didn't get Hurts. Guy has had one good season. It wasn't long ago they were about ready to run him out of Philly.

Hurts wouldn't have done any better than Dak here. In Philly, they go all in and build around their qb. Here, we'd trot out a team that is 'just good enough' to get to the 2nd round of the playoffs

Really?? I think you need to take off the blinders. He has developed into a very effective QB. He's already taken his team to a SB and played extremely well to get there and in the big game itself. Not many others out there like that including any of ours over the last 25 years. We'll see if your this year if he's just a flash in the pan. Will be interesting to see.

I'm curious, how, specifically does a team build a team that's just good enough to get to 2nd round of playoffs?

Is there a list or set of criteria one can look at that says ok, with these players, this team will be just good enough for 2nd round, but no more?
 
this isnt news and it isnt a miss.....and if its a miss then 32 teams missed because Philly didnt even draft him in the first
 
Always remember - about 80% of what JJ says is meaningless mind wandering. He loves to talk and loves to have someone with a microphone or notepad listen. He loves having the Cowboys in the spotlight for any reason.

You do that by bringing a team that is good, but has several obvious, glaring holes that you refuse to patch up or that you even cause of your own volition.

Imagine if we didn't trade away Amari... we might have had just enough to get over the San Francisco hump. Imagine if we actually had a kicker that we didn't have to hide. One of those interceptions was caused because we didn't have faith in Maher kicking the field goal, so we threw a pass that resulted in an interception.

The year that Philly won the superbowl, I had a feeling, because their roster was STACKED. No real glaring weaknesses. Even the previous year, they stacked up their roster once again and although they didn't win, they got to another superbowl.

The whole 'we like our guys' and 'we're only going to build through the draft' or 'we only bring bargain bin free agents' policy as of late has been a horrendous failure. You have to go out and stack your team to compete against other teams that have been doing the same.

Will it result in a couple of bust years? Sure... but you have to take that risk.

This year, I give the FO props for at least making a couple of solid trades with Cooks and Gilmore... but we still have a potential huge issue in O line if one guy gets injured, and given our history, there WILL be in injury... and I'm not sure if our running game is what I want it to be.

#1 I'd trade for an O-lineman if possible.
#2 I'd look into grabbing a standout at RB to split with Pollard.

I'm really not sure how Pollard will come back after his injury, especially with a HEAVIER load, and I don't really trust Rico Dowdle to be our #1 back on a year we're supposed to be superbowl ready.

I think so far the criteria has been...

Get a borderline dominant dee with an excellent DC and a non elite QB whose decision making is questionable the stronger the opponent.
