Will Our Offense Come out Sluggish in Game 1?

I know practice is a help, but nothing is more helpful than going against another opponent. Do you think our offense comes out sluggish in this first game? If so, where may we struggle?

I hope that we don't have any issues, but this offense was not in during the pre-season, as were a lot of starting NFL offenses. Please give your thoughts......

Of course we will struggle. Dak didnt take any snaps, unlike Daniel Jones. I think Jones may have played 3 full pre season games. Pollard didnt take a snap, unlike Barkeley who rushed for 590 yards with 4 Tds in the pre season.


So I expect us to really struggle for the first 7-8 games until they get back into the swing of things.

Look at Deion's son who came out and threw for 510 yards with not a single pre season snap.

If the O-line stays healthy it will be fine, if we are playing "Musical chairs" on the o-line at times it may struggle a bit.

Some guys benefit from the preseason, others do not. IMO guys going through 1-2 series of scripted vanilla plays against a defense of backups and veterans going through the motions in mostly base packages doesn't do much.

The big difference to me is always at the QB position as that's the one player that's completely off limits during camp and can now get hit. Dak is a veteran player though, he should know what to expect and how to get himself ready for week 1.

Also to me its coaches and gameplans, they have months to gameplan this first game and how fluid is it.. KM's gameplan didnt have room for adjustments really if we were overmatched then it was curtains.. lets see how easy MM's gameplan can move around things that dont work.

I’ll be surprised if we come out looking sharp offensively. We have a new offense and play caller. We have a new number two receiver. Our starters haven’t seen any live game reps since last January. This will be the first live pass rush Dak has faced since the playoffs. I just hope we don’t look as bad offensively as we did last year in the opener. It usually takes longer for the offense to come around than the defense. I think it was a mistake not playing our starters for at least a couple of series in preseason. We’ll find out on Sunday.

He won’t be as loose as you’re predicting. It’s going to be a lot different facing starters than third and fourth stringers

The nature of this offense is quick passes to open guys who are YAC merchants. If we are struggling to complete easy passes and run after the catch then I’ll be surprised.

It’s the potential lack of complexity from a Mike McCarthy offense later in the season that I’d be more weary about. I think early we’ll be fine.

It’s not something to buy or not buy, it’s just a fact. Coaches, players, scouts all say it and it’s a commonly known thing.

Even Dak said it himself after the game he called for Grier. The defense gave them 3 basic looks all night. You’ll get 3 looks in one series in the season and they won’t be basic cover 3.

It’s not necessarily that there’s vanilla plays from madden everyone loads up and runs. It’s just the simplest concepts of your offense and defense against the other teams simplest concepts. It just doesn’t move the needle in terms of prep for a game other than for young guys who need to get used to the speed.

Yes...

Compare week 1 last year @ home against TB vs the playoff game @ TB. We were a much better team...
Not playing the starters at all will cause us to come out of the gate slow, we just have to hope the defense can carry us to victory against NY

Absolutely, but you also run those same plays in practice 100 times each. If it's just a matter of running the plays then I'd put even more of an emphasis on why practice is more important that the preseason. Not only are you running those plays more times, but you can have the defense give you several different looks against each of those plays. In the preseason you'll see defenses run the same vanilla scheme against your vanilla scheme and all you end up with is 1v1 matchups across the board with minimal adjustments being made.

I still tend to be on the side that thinks preseason is great for younger players and even new players to an organization. It helps as a dry run for what game days look like for that team. It also helps guys understand what "game speed" looks and feels like at this level. For veteran players, which is pretty much all of the Dallas offense I don't understand the fuss.

But like.. why post this? The point of these forums is have opinions, share them, and debate them.

Do you want a single master post, "We don't know what will happen!"

Personally, I think them starting slow will be a near certainty given recent history. I don't know if it's Dak, the coachs, some combination of both? If they don't start slow, I wonder if that's telling of KM.
